A friend of mine has a 87 Buick Park Ave that has gotten up to 35 mpg. Filled before we left and refilled when we got to our destination, all Highway at 65-70 mph.

One of the biggest advertising mistakes that GM ever made was in not bragging about the mileage their "big" cars got. They did better than many smaller cars while they had all the comfort and room you could ask for. I believe they lost a tremendous number of sales due to that. They also killed the Bonneville when it was outselling the Buick Le Sabre.

If you get the handling package, they ride and handle great. I had mine close to 110 and my wife just sat there, unconcerned. The standard suspension is still better than the Olds and Buicks. I know of some people who owned one of them and the first time they drove a Bonneville they traded for it. One exception was a doctor who first got an Olds 88 because they thought the Bonnie was too firm. When their son wrecked their Olds, they bought the Bonnie.
They all dealt with the dealer I bought my '92 from. I ordered the handling package on mine because they didn't have one with it. I bought the first one they sold, and from that time on, they didn't order one without it.

Personally I like the ride / handling / interior ergonomics of the 92-9 Bonnies better than I do the last gen.

Look at the label on the trunk lid for FE2/F41, those are the codes for the handling package.

I just bought my friends '97 Bonneville SSEi for $300, for my son to drive. Hail damage, broken outside mirror, gas gauge doesn't work and the air was leaking out from the recently new tires. The supercharger idler pulley went and took out the belt (you have to remove the motor mount to replace). Other than that it's like my '98 SSEi, oil leaks and check engine light is on. 22-4 MPG. I like the ignition key placement on the pre-2001 models.

6 miles (2 stop signs), wait at light or get caught at train tracks. 5 miles and 4 more lights before freeway. 8 more miles before the lights start again. 6 more lights before workplace. 46 miles round trip. Long trips are usually 26-7 MPG.
