No, I just didn't 0 deck. Scr is 10.25:1, dcr right around 7.5:1. I'll set timing at 14 and see how it likes it. I'm regretting not having the block decked; probably something I'll do in the next year or two, especially since I plan on throwin on a set of aluminum heads around that time. I'm happy with the 190 running temp in 110 degree weather though.. At least I did something right with the cooling system!

Gotcha. Yeah, try 14, maybe even 12. Where does it ping at? Lower speeds/bottom of gear? Or on the top?

Another thing to check is the vacuum switch that screws into the water crossover, for many cars that's where the vacuum advance gets it's source, and if bad, no vacuum advance.

I personally prefer manifold vacuum for advance, but not going to get into that debate. BUT, as a test, you can try manifold vacuum and see if it helps. That will give you an idea where to look at least. May want to make sure your vacuum advance even works, too.

On my driver, as an example, I run full time vacuum, and have like 18-20 degrees or more at idle. I can sit in traffic all day long, 100+ degree temps outside, AC blasting, never goes over 10-15 degrees of the stat rating, which is 180.

Think you should put the trans cooler lines back through the radiator too, and have the external after the rad cooler.

FWIW, I'm with HWYSTR455. If you aren't running your vacuum advance on manifold, you should. The additional timing at idle will help cooling significantly. I'm still experimenting with my initial and my vacuum advance, so I've been reading extensively on the subject recently.

Yup, and step on the gas and the advance goes away, prevents off the line ping. You can play with the pump shot to make it right. You are also able to close the throttle plates more at idle, giving a better signal & vacuum. With an adjustable can, you can adjust how sensitive to throttle it is, at cruise too. Use the Accel cans, and Crane limiters to adjust total.
