They are also cross-breeding with other species. A couple of weeks ago a neighbor shot one that was nearly twice the size as the "average" coyote. I'll see if I can get some pics. He said it was watching him every time he went to his tree stand to deer hunt, but on a ridge several hundred yards away.

He took his 7mm mag with him on the last day and shot the coyote instead of deer hunting. He claims it's over 50lbs, but I didn't see it or the pics yet.

We seldom have encounters with them here as I have two large dogs over 100lbs and they LOVE to chase down and kill the young pups if/when they fall behind the rest of the pack and start crying. They sound they make is something you will never forget, and my dogs purk up and take off like lions headed for a fresh kill!

The adults are really smart, and this behavior has educated them enough to stay well clear of my property. I haven't cut a coyote track in the snow now in several years.

There is a den "complex" about 3 miles from here, and one of my friends put a deer camera on it in the Spring last year. He said they brought in over 30 fawns in the course of several weeks. The farmer than owns that property LOVES it, as the deer cost him many thousands of dollars each year in crop damage.

I've seen the "complex", it's spooky, has 4 entrances and huge PILES of bones/fir/hair outside the main entrance. From what I can see they feed on road kill, and a good many raccoons and ground hogs in addition to the fawns they kill in the Spring.......Cliff

Yep.....deer are very destructive, in more ways than one, and the deer take off when the coyotes show up. The coyotes don't bother me at all

I was coming home from Alabama late one night a few months ago and surprised two adolescent Coyote pups on my road. One was solid black.
First one of those I'd ever seen.

I don't see their value to the eco system, just another pest. I'll let that to the foxes and coons. All they will ingest around here is lead. In Pa you can hunt them 24/7 nearly year round.

There's usually sick if out during day and not afraid. Mange-rabbies-etc. They'll make little noises after dark to lure a little dog out of his yard. They just made it ok too shoot where I live on your own property.

They're bad enough around here that I always have a gun on me . Doesn't matter if I'm on a horse or on my tractor. I have shot at some in my pasture in broad daylight. Legal to kill 24/7 here. Carry either a .44 Remington or .36 Navy Colt.

The big ones are actually a coywolf. Hybrids that have cross bred. May not be afraid of wolf piss. We have captured them on game cams here. There are distinctly different varieties. The smaller traditional variety and the coywolf. Have seen a couple of them after shot dead and shot one myself w #4. They do not fear humans as much as a typical coyote. The one I shot stared me down and let me get 2 shots off. Did not flee after the first. He fled after getting spun around by the 2nd blast. Most are about the size of a German Shepherd. They pack up here and make a fearful noise around the full moon when they congregate. They do not seem to care day or night anymore. I see them as much in daylight as at night cruising pastures and open fields. The Govt. game people deny they exist, but that is BS. They also deny Mt. lions exist, & we have stills of them lounging on the rocks here in a group.

I saw the documentary mentioned earlier about the 'Coywolf'. They had footage of one trotting through a crowded public park in broad daylight. His demeanor indicated that he knew exactly what he was doing and what he could get away with. Like he knew that no one in that environment would likely challenge him.
A few people did double takes like "Is that a dog? ...."Yeah, MUST be a dog". They are extremely smart animals.

We get them here right in downtown Toronto, if there is a little bit of bush nearby. I didn't think much of it until the complaints started rolling in about them taking people's pets. There's been a couple attempts at catching them and dropping them off out in the boonies. But so far they've proven to be quite elusive. A couple of weeks ago my son and I were in the storage place where our car is, and I heard a whole pack of them howling in the middle of the day. I thought it was some kids fooling around but after half an hour I realized that they were nearby. Kind of creepy, and I've heard of them staring people down in urban neighborhoods here.

Here locally, a Coyote chased a domestic cat INTO THE HOUSE. The family came home and snapped a photo of a full grown Coyote sitting on their kitchen counter. It's been a couple of years ago but it made national news.
Animal control came and got the thing and I believe they euthanized it. I know that they did not release it.

I see them pretty often here in the desert. People with toy dogs worry about them. But thats the only real problem I can see with them. They eat the plethora of rabbits.

I dont think I could shoot it. Its a dog, I dont think I could bring myself to shoot a dog unless it was actively doing something awful.

See them all the time in my neighborhood, our Carin Terrior chased him out of the yard once and he's only 15 lbs. I usally check first before I let him out.

A few years ago they decided to hang out under my snowmobile Trailer, after I shewed them away I marked the Trailer by peeing around it they never came back.

They are becoming problematic here. 3 of them jumped and killed a friend's lab last year. The ones I am seeing must have bred with dogs as they are in the 45-55 lb. range. As their populations have increased I've noticed a significant decrease in the fox population over the last few years.

starting to get more and more reports of pets getting taken. I'm an animal lover myself...but when it comes to predators taking pets...that's another story altogether. They gotta go at that point!

Oddly enough...talked to a friend of mine and he says a friend of his kills them on his property to protect his livestock and he skins and tans the hides just as a sort of hobby. Showed him a comforter for a queen sized bed and he said it felt soft like a flannel shirt. Anyway...he claims his largest take weighed in at 82 lbs!

Last year my friends and I took 95 Yotes from a fairly small area. The year before we took over 100. One of my buddies was back out to the same area this past weekend and and took 2. They will re-populate that area quick, fast and in a hurry. And when you see them stalking or trailing you, they are not just curious. They are looking for weak or injured prey. When they see that weakness is when they attack. Do your self a favor and if you are seeing them that close to you, you should be armed and ready. JMHO

Ive lived in Az since 76 and Ive noticed that they are getting bigger and bolder in the last 10 years. I don't mind them though. They keep the cats away where I live. I hate cats ever since one pissed in my parked car when I forgot to roll the windows up.
