We have a lot of those around here. I also see a lot of illegals driving without a license and insurance, and when they cause an accident they just leave the scene on foot LOL. Not long ago a car chase ensued that ended up off road. We have mountains and 130 year old mining towns located on wagon trails that aren't maintained....if you can imagine that....then picture a car chase that ends up on these trails. HILARIOUS
Eventually they loose control and wreck, and like 10 people get out of the car and scatter on foot throughout the desert. Where do they think they are going to go?? I watch it on TV and it's like.....Okay here we go. The cops cut the dogs loose and it's over with quickly.

This right here, in a big way. I've never owned a vehicle newer than '98 and I just don't see that changing. I do not want all that extra technology for the sake of technology crap. I want to be in complete control of the car and all its functions. I don't want any kind of driving aids except ABS, I don't want drive by wire throttle, I don't want fancy chipped keys, I don't want daytime running lights or automatic headlights that can't be defeated, etc.. It's my car, I want it to be the way I want it to be.

My daily driver van had automatic headlights that came on in when the sensor was dark that couldn't be defeated and I hated them.. until I installed a relay in the main power feed for the lights, with a switch inside on the dash that I can flip to turn them off. It was way too sensitive and they would come on all kinds of times when they didn't need to, and they would come on in the evening well before I would turn them on. They do NOT need to come on if I happen to be sitting under an overpass waiting at a light for a minute in the middle of the day, they do not need to come on when I start it up in the garage at home, etc.. So the switch I installed is basically now my headlight switch, as whenever I choose to flip it on, it's dark enough outside for the sensor to turn the lights on.

I've never been a believer in daytime running lights or their effectiveness, and having driven a large amount of miles on country two lane roads and such, I still cannot for the life of me understand how anyone thinks they make any difference in visibility. Sure, I might be able to see your vehicle from a half mile away instead of only 2/5ths, but who on earth cares at that distance? What matters is when vehicles come close enough to potentially interfere with each other on the road, and if you can't see any vehicle, pedestrian or otherwise up close, you've got bigger problems that DRLs won't solve. In fact I despise many cars with DRLs as a lot of them use dimmed high beams for the light, and due to the angle of these lights they can often cause a lot of needless glare, even in bright daylight. Counterproductive if you ask me.

Plus, on a country two lane road, if you simply stay on your side of the damn road and look carefully before you turn/pass, you won't need to worry about oncoming traffic, as you'll pass each other just fine.

I have three algorithms that never let me down.

One - If I am overtaking or approaching a Toyota Camry from behind, the driver can be counted on doing something irrational. Lane change abruptly , speed up suddenly, slow down suddenly. Same goes for a face off at an intersection. They can always be counted on to do something idiotic.

Two - If I am in the left/center and BMW approaches me from behind, the driver will flash his headlights even if I am driving 10mph over the limit. When I do not comply with this Germanic overlord's command, he will swing into the right lane and pass in the narrowest of gaps and swerve back in front of me. BMW drivers are a superior race and their time is more valuable than mine. However, I have been known to allow them to test their brakes with a bit of throttle application to close the gap.

Three - Under the same circumstances, a hunkered down ricer import will always attempt the same maneuver with 2 or three fellow fartcan lovers in tow but without the "courtesy" headlight flash. They always travel in packs presumably taking a break from playing Grand Theft Auto which has sharpened their driving skills. Again my right foot is awakened by the sound of buzzing fartcans and there is little I can do to control it.

I also have a 911 and a motorbike, so I believe that I've covered all 4 food groups in the road menace category
But rarely do I drive aggressively. After living in Mexico City for two years, I learned not to engage your fellow motorist. Europe and other parts of the world? Don't worry, they're driving more aggressively than you. You better move your butt to keep up.

The other day, though, I could see a guy in an Audi in my rear view mirror weaving in and out of the lanes, cutting people off, etc., He gets up beside me at the light, ready to get aggressive and cut me off because he's in the curb lane and cars are parked on the other side of the intersection. I thought "up yours, buddy" and tromped it, leaving him behind. He manages to get beside me later and tells me I'm driving like that because I have a small *****. So I told him "it was big enough for your mama".

So that's it. We must unite against the real culprits: Audi drivers.

The most consistent idiot driver car I've noticed around here is the latest generation Mustang...
Also, I stay out of the way of young female drivers that lean forward in the driver's seat, almost up against the steering wheel...and that's regardless of car type. They turn their heads completely around and look over their shoulders when they change lanes at 80~90 mph in heavy traffic..and all of this with a smart phone in one hand....

I have had a dash cam in my DD Bonneville for two years now. Every time some aggressive dip**** ends up next to me at a light like theyre gonna be all badass, I point to the dash cam and they behave themselves.

I enjoy the Prius drivers with the misplaced superiority complexes. I make sure than when my 454 powered suburban (with a 3" off brand flowmaster muffler and factory tailpipe that exists behind the right rear wheel) is towing and loaded hard, that I end up with the exhaust pipe aimed right at the drivers side window of the Prius, especially stopped at traffic lights. Any presumptuous sneer on their part is rewarded by my increasing application of throttle and resultant noise. I don't call it 7.4 liters of disappointment for nothing.

Don't confuse disdain for arrogant smugness with jealousy.

From where I sit, the crown for most entitled pricks on the road has shifted from BMW drivers to probably Audis. Of course there are terrible drivers of all stripes, driving all manner of vehicles, but these days I find myself encountering more entitled scumbags driving Audis than BMWs. BMW just doesn't have the aura about it that it used to, compared to some of the other euro brands.

Where I am(near Reno, NV), the vast majority of the real scumbag drivers are all the new ones moving in from southern California especially, and some from northern California. There's a big contingent of scumbag kids driving their crappy imports and beat up Rangers/S-10s that are very aggressive and drive horribly, but the real entitled pricks are the euro-trash drivers bringing their so-cal attitudes with them when they come here to work for Tesla and such. These are the people that will ruin the roads here just like they did where they came from.

No, it's still predominately BMW drivers who suck. As a personal example, I've recently had 2 encounters at rural 4 way stops where the Beemer girl felt entitled to continue without stopping, jumping ahead of 3 considerate drivers.
So to the OP, it's not only in California.

Definitely a society wide problem. Drivers forget there are other people in these cars. What they should be thinking, is what if the person they just cut off pulls up at the next light and looks at them and it turns out to be their ________ (neighbor, reverend, grandmother, boss, policeman, etc.)? My guess is the folks with tinted windows have experienced this before which is why I avoid cars with tinted windows.
