#16 round port SD heads. No porting. Some casting flash cleaned up and exhaust ports polished. Unknow flow numbers (but not much off stock, I'd imagine) Ultradyne 280/288 cam.

8.31 in the 1/8th at Butler's this year
(Yeah, it's slow but I can run 87 octane and cruise all day with those 3:08 gears)

Chad

ND's fastest Pontiac (I think) and Minot's fastest street car (not like that means much)

Nothing personal, but comparing E-heads to Steel heads with restricted workable passages, plus not having the flow capability to handle the newer better ground cams(and technology) to take advantage of the E-heads better flow capability is redundant.
I know, a run on sentance, but I had to get my point accross.

Never happen. That was then this is now.
They were a good head in their day....... so were
flat head V-8's.

Old street/strip...6X's milled to 86cc, home ported (230 cfm?), on a stock stroke 462.

New strip/street...62's race ported (254 cfm at .600" on a 4.151" bore @ 28"), on a 468 (4.25" stroke by 4.186" bore). These heads have gone 10.50's @ 126-MPH on a 400 in a 3400 lb. car, so we'll see what happens with the tubby T/A.

308cfm is 308cfm, it doesn't know what head it's flowing through. Can't use the argument about velocity either, E-head port side by side with R.A. IV port is close, ported ot not.

Brian, he didn't say that both heads had to flow the same. He is saying that his RA IV's will out perform Any E-head, without power adders in the same weight car.
Not on this planet. LOL.

E-heads are good but how much more than 308 can a set of street e-heads flow? Me thinks it might not make much of a difference.

Edelbrock 73cc. Pushrods offset .250", 2.18" intake, 1.760" exhaust. Flow is 366/280 at .800" and 28". And these are going on my new street engine.

torqjunki....call your office!!

how about a 462 and a set of d-ports flowing a measly 275cfm, a flat tappet solid, 3650lbs street car, running 10 teens in the 1/4.

however you slice it, iron vs. aluminum, its all in the way a port can efficiently flow the air.

boykoman...Very impressive!! Another lesson for the BIG NUMBER lovers. It should be no secret that our Pontiacs make much less HP than most of the turds we drag down the track. Same applies for big CFM numbers. I don't buy into the number crunchers who attempt to apply a mathematical equation using the max CFM of my cylinder heads to project performance levels. On a traditional Pontiac engine, more important factors apply.

#62 d-ports 270cfm @.500
10.25 @ 129 no NOS

So far it seems that everyone likes the E-heads or #16 d ports. Does anyone still run #12's or #48's. I loved my 670's that I sent to warrior racing for porting, but I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing the Edelbrock's.

IMO you can pretty much lump the #12, 13, 16, 48 and 62’s into the same category. The #12 and 48’s have greater value for the restorers of RAIIIs but other wise there are little if any performance difference.

Everyone, don’t forget to vote, survey is at the top/first post.

with out questions there can be no answers

#16's ported by Pete McCarthy, 2.19 Manley intake valves and 1.77 Ferrea exhaust valves. Flow sheets from SD Performance say they flow:

average of all ports on the intake side is 288.45 at .550 lift measuring at 28" of water. Best port flowed 290.60 worst port 286.30

average of all ports on the exhaust side is 194.6 at .600 lift measuring at 28" of water. Best port flowed 201.2 worst port flowed 188.10

The exhaust is a little weak but the intakes aren't bad for a D-Port

But look at the size of the motors they are running for what they are turning. We're not talking Small Blocks here.
These Pontiacs are pushing big Cu.In. #'s and are turning what, weigh how much, and with how much spent????????

Let's compare Apples to Apples.

I love Pontiacs but, come on....... if I had 474+ cu.in and am only in the 8's or 9's with how much spent!!!!!!!!!

You do need flow, just it all doesn't have to be a total at .700 lift, (ya need those middle #'s) but you still need flow to make big #'s,,,,,,,,, if your not running power adders. LOL.

2nd Round, [email protected] ...Radials... hard on the brakes, Ray. LOL.
