I just picked up a 76 trans am that was sitting in a field for 4 years with no shaker on it... Water all through the carb. oatmeal looking substance in the intake Edelbrock intake and carb by the way. Rust in the intake ports on the head rust on the massive rocker arms, i cant get the engine to move, the lady that told me to go pick it up said it was a new crate motor when she parked it in that cursed field 4 years ago, but it dosent move. The parts dont even look like they've ever moved, the odometer says 09,514 so i dont know... the body is all screwed up and i don't know if it's a pontiac motor at all, but i hope it is. It's been repainted at least once, the origional- Whatever color Maroonish Red- and the block is a strange light bluu, along with the water pump and the valve covers look like they also want to be the same color, but nature got to them... If this motor dosen't work out, i've got a 472 sitting in the garage all lonely, and built up as much as it can be... Evil thoughts Evil thoughts

I have a silver 75TA 400,4speed I purchased new. The car has 77000 miles with no rust or dents, however the paint on the top and hood was very faded so I am in the process of a total rebuild. I replaced the original motor with a motor that I rebuilt from a wrecked 68 GTO about 1978. I drove that motor about 55000 miles. I still have the original motor with only 22000 miles still setting in my shop. I have finished another rebuild on my 68 motor bored 30 over,Eagle rods and Eheads and a lot of other goodies that I hope to put in the car tomorrow. Then the car goes back to the paint shop to finish the paint. I hope to have it ready for the 03 power tour.

I don't own a 'Bird, mine's a '70 Pontiac 400 powered '39 Pontiac Coupe, however a guy we cruise with is the original owner of a '76 455 TA that just turned 5,000 miles!!! He said he bought it and put it in storage after driving it a few months because he said that it was the last year for 455 Birds. The paint appears to be a copper color with matching interior. The engine compartment needs some cleaning up, but other than that the car is perfect. The engine is a wierd teal color. Does anyone know where he can get matching paint? Any help is appreciated.

Talkin about late to a post but whatever... I drive a 3700lb 74 Firebird with a supercharged 455, #614 heads & an Isky solid. Best mph so far is 148 with the ET slow at 9.37. I've had this car for 16yrs taking it from a 350ci stocker through the 13's, 12's, 11's, 10's, 9's & now with luck into the 8's all while maintaining varying degrees of streetability. Obviously it's a bit less streetable now than it was in 13sec trim, but it's still licensed, has a full interior and is still driven.

Nice to hear what everybody is running. I ordered waited 5 mos. for mine.74 TA SD455.With minimum options.Only requirements for SD455.Admiralty Blue,Blue custom interior,AM/FM,8track tape.Thats all.Been to Gettsyburg POCI,Charleston WV.,and Norwalk approx 8 timeswith it.All original(except hoses, belts, tires, touch up on flares)Engine has gotten decent mileage approx 15/16 on trips with my foot out of it.The exhaust is noisy and original(so far). I have all paper work.Usually the car doesn't score well because it is original .When shows advertize survivor I will particpate.Times are 14.0/14.20 at 98/100. Engine has never been apart probably should blueprint it. I ahve another 70body looks like a 73 with a SD stock blueprint,3636lbs,headders,3200converter,4.10,9" tires, stock lift 323 cam.12.17/ 110.

dwbrenner:

The original engine paint color on mid 70's Pontiac V8's is Olds metallic blue which was used in the late 60's and early 70's.

Hope this helps,
Lloyd

My Trans Am is a 1976. Originally a 455/4 speed, it left the factory Starlight Black with black deluxe interior.
During its life the car has lost a few parts, due to careless previous owners, no doubt. I believe the car was imported to Australia without the 455 and 4 speed, as it was originally converted to Right Hand Drive and set up as a 350 Chev with TH350 auto. Its currently painted light blue. I've been doing a driving restoration on this car since I bought it, my aim is to have a reliable daily driver. I plan to restore it properly a few years down the track.
I had a lucky find the other day, a fellow Trans Am owner who had the bad luck to write-off his 74 T/A. If things go well, I might be able to buy the wreck ... which has a 455 and a 12 bolt Posi.
I also have a very tidy 1970 Camaro RS/SS with TPI 350/4 speed and 12 bolt posi.

Leigh

nice - neat

and i like the pictures - i like pictures of project cars more than showcars - a little more character in them, and they're more interesting

i've got a dual snorkle air cleaner (no idea from what) that i'm going to hook into the hood on my car for ram air, shouldn't be too hard
