Tanner there is something on that subject earlier in the thread. Talks about cooling the throttle blades and icing due to moisture. I would be more concerned about cooling the fuel and keeping it a constant temp around 15* Celsius. The gas companies up here sell the gas per litre compensated to that temperature. They blow air into the pumps (so I'm told)to compensate for contraction in the cold temps. All done by computer and air compressor below 15* Celsius. Just as water expands below 14* F and also expands above 39* F I suspect gasoline would behave somewhat similar or the gas companies wouldn't have lobbied the gov't to make all pumps the same. The disclaimer on the pump says "volume corrected to 15* Celsius." Ed

If the exhaust crossover were ground off the Performer intake you could take and weld a 4"x4" (or whatever fits) 1" thick sealed vessel. Install a 1/2 bung on the right rear and another on the left front. Weld the new aluminum vessel to the bottom of the intake and plumb with a tee at the heater core nipple for the heater. Run a 5/8 hose up to the bung on the right side (fitted with a 1/2 to 5/8 adapter) then off the front left hand side run a 1/2 hose up to the water crossover. Install a water valve to control flow (much the same as your heater,, hot/cold lever.) Open the valve when you want to warm up your engine and to get better gas mileage when cruising. Close the valve and stop up the coolant flow when your at the track or just want the extra performance as now you would have an "Air Gap" type of intake. Ed

I know the old race guys would run their gas through a coil with ice water and that some would try to cool their intake. I thought I read somewhere that these measures had the opposite effect and made the cars slower. Like to here more if anyone has tested this theory.
It makes sense that cold air is denser air and has more oxygen, but warm air/gas is closer to evaporation. (Now I'm thinking of smokey's fiero) To hot gas starts to boil out and flood the motor. |

Rohrt, Google "gasoline volume correction." I would like to know why the gas companies settle on 15 Celsius as their bench mark. Might be as simple as the refinery storage tanks around the country average out a temp of 15C(winter /summer). Or it could be that at this temp it has the biggest heat sink properties and holds its temp unless subjected to big variations one way or the other. Ed
