Mine weren't hurt at all, and I didn't feel defensive. Obviously some here aren't on such an even keel, so they jumped down your throat. Not a very warm welcome to the forum, but most of us are glad you're here, anyway.

It is great that we now have several great Pontiac performance shops around the country; Bulter Performance, KRE, PPR, SD Performace, Spotts Performance, Ken's Speed and Machine Shop, AllPontiac, BOP Engineering, Wenzler Performance and I am sure their are a few I am forgetting. But it is important for us not to forget the people that did not let the Pontiac Performance candle blow out during the lean years of the seventies and eighties; Pete McCarthy, Nunzi, H&O Racing. If it wasn't for these people that were building, racing and keeping the history alive, we would proable not have the aftermarket options we have today.

Spinnin, who are showing just how little you know. Most of the people on this forum are aware that NRHA wins for a true Pontiac in Stock and Superstock are few and far between. It is very hard to build a competive car and stay within the strict rules of the NHRA especially in an off make like a Pontiac. You are limited in the amount of engine work that can be done and what engine combos the NHRA recognizes. You can't just stick RA 4 heads on a 455 block and go racing in these classes. Not to metion if you start win a lot and/or are going well under the class index, The NHRA will either refactor your car or the the whole class. Why do you think Pete complained to the NHRA, once he got his car competive the NHRA refactored it, which means you have find some more power to get get it back in competive form. Not easy to do in a strict rules class. In superstock the only National event winners I can think for the past 15 years in a true Pontiac powered car are Art Peterson and Bruce Fullper and in stock Tebor Kadar, who by the way was runner up in points in the 2006 NHRA season. There might be a few others Don Kennedy, Joel Larkin, Keri Angeles but I do not know if they have won any races.

I have not claimed to be a know it all and all I wanted was for someone to explain something to me. You have done a great job of just that. I am still not showing anyone how little that I know because I first ask the question.....I was the one who was attacked for my question and when I pointed out inconsistances, no one came back with anything except the same old bla bla bla
. I understand exactly what you are talking about. Trust me, I have been a poncho fan for a long time. As far as keeping candles lit, maybe he did, maybe he wrote down a lot of items made popular by others and got credit for it. Who cares, it's just funny to me........

It would appear that in fact you, my friend, are the typical one. No goat rope here. I may question something but you will never hear me call someone out unless I have the facts to back it up. I ask a question and wow, instant "my Daddy is bigger than your Daddy". Who cares! Tell someone to bring their ride to the track and they think they are gonna take your $$$$. You might (11.66???) , you might not. We race for fun, always have and always will. You are the reason that these forum sights are nothing more than the new bathroom wall of slander and crap. If I am wrong about something, please point it out to me. If it is an oversite I will gladly fix it. If you are not poised enough to carry on a general conversation like adults why even bother.......

While I disagree with your "Bathroom wall" comment, the board is what the members make of it. The vast majority of our members are here to share their interest in Pontiac's.
It is, however, a red flag when a new member jumps right in and throws his spoon in the pot working up the emotion of other members. If you honestly feel PY is a bathroom wall then please find another stall to crap in, if you can be a productive member then by all means stick around and have fun. |

Irony,,,I recognize that... What's so mature about your methods amigo??? You jump in the sandbox and start kicking sand in all the kids faces and expect them to thank you for the privilege of eating sand,,,I dont think so... Just because your the type of fella who apparently feels that if he's not personally aware of another fellas accomplishments or contributions, that they simply cannot possibly be valid yet, well sorry but that's just not a very realistic way to view the world if you ask me. If you honestly wanted to know more about Pete M. and were not intent on starting $#!t with the members of the forum here, why the hell did you not post a new thread here and ask us that question outright, instead of digging this thread up and coming off like a bull in a china shop with your comments and attitude. Why $#!t on someone else's thread??? Lemme use some LEO lingo, you should understand this next comment, your M/O would seem to give away your intent in this thread. You came here to start $#!t by being the one to take this thread off topic to begin with, and you continue to stir the $#!t with your continued contributions to taking this thread off topic, and likely you'll end up getting this thread locked in the end with this sorta dreck. This thread was'nt about Pete McCarthy at all, this thread was about a specific engine build he had published in a magazine a while back, the discussion in this thread was about that article, and other various articles he had written on pontiac engine builds. This thread was NOT about the man himself, nor his personal worth to the pontiac hobby,or his personal accomplishments. You my fellow member are the one who's been off topic with your personal issue(s) regarding Pete M. here, what they are based off of I cant fathom,I dont worship the guy myself either,I dont worship anybody in this deal really, they're all just car guys doing their own thing, maybe they share some info with others, maybe they dont,no big deal to me either way IMO. But I also recognize that the books (plural=2 books) I have of his are among the more useful books I own about pontiacs. You seem to think some guys are straight shooters just because they take a little time to bend your ear and tell you a thing or two, well often that's exactly why those guys do that when folks let them, they do so to gain your trust without really earning it,not with their actions nor thru their reputation amongst others. That's where the con in con-man comes from, confidence,a con-man has to exude it to gain it from others, once he gains the marks confidence,he can pretty much convince the mark of almost anything, that is one of the oldest tricks in the book. ![]() Good luck in your pontiac endeavours. |

First of all the Bath room wall comment was exactly what I ment. I kicked sand at no one I mearly ask a question and was accused of being people that I am not and called a dumb ass. (Yet very few that made any comments worked to answer me and to them I will listen) If that isn't bathroom wall then what is......I agree that the forum is what the members make of it and it is funny that if someone ask a real question that is the truth how snippy people get. I have never had a problem with apoligizing when I need to and if I offended anyone then I will repeat myself from earlier and again say that I am sorry. If me asking a question works up soooo many emotions of soo many people then again, I am sorry. If I was out of line in my original question on this particular thread then once again, I am sorry. But if you attack me for me asking a question, regardless of the forum I will stand right back to you. If it had been such a problem, then whey didn't someone just say so instead of attacking me. Or maybe that is the way people opperate now days. As far as not attempting to get a thread locked up I will play elsewhere. I had no intention of redirecting someone else's thread. Sorry to those that missed the entire issue. |

There are several Pontiac Vendor's/builders/etc that bring out a lot of emotion from the members. You just happened to hit one, and with you being new to the board it appeared that you were just trying to push a button. With you being in Law Enforcement I'm sure you can understand that.
New members are always welcome, we never shy away from a difference of opinion around here. As long as everyone treats each other with respect we can all learn from a heated discussion. |

Another idiot to add to my ignore list.
If he seriously wanted to know more about McCarthy, he would have (should have?) gone about it differently. Time will tell, but right now all I see is another troll... FWIW, I've met Pete in person, and he's actually quite humble. |

Agree 100%. Pete is a very decent person. I have known him for many years and he has helped me a great deal. Pete and Dave Bischopp helped me when I was learning how do port d port heads. Even going as far as porting an intake port for me and flowing it on Daves SF600 bench at absolutely no cost to me. Thats class in my book. For now you and Flash keep on chasin' them Duke boys.

Spinninmywheels-back in the 80's and early 90's when I was heavily into pontiacs (and most people WEREN"T) Pete Mcarthy was held in high regard in the pontiac community. I used to scour thru everything published that he contributed to,I spoke with him for technical advice several times on the phone and he took the time to help me along the way and answer questions that most guys couldn't. These modern shops that are a mouse click or phone call away today were non-existent,we had HO racing,Romano Nunzi and Warrior racing, that was about it.
Goatasoarus rex-next time your DUMBAZZ is over here at my shop you need to look thru my pontiac magazine archives-I have the mag article your looking for unless MR Twister Scammed it from me ,I also still have the comp cam special grind laying around that I custom ordered when I built a pontiac 400 trying to mirror what they did in that build up,it would have been a great motor but it was just too much cam for the jet boat I put it in,Smitty

Most of the time the Hatari SS car ran a 78 6X combo.
A further comment on Pete -he was one of the first guys publishing a Pontiac only magazine that had actual tech articles based on measuring, comparing differences between parts and was race related. Not advertising fluff like most commercial magazines. He had some good indepth stuff. He was happy to share it and would talk on the phone to anyone to help with their Pontiac motor, not keep things a secret like some builders. He did alot of research and published casting numbers for Pontiac factory stuff. Sometimes he was opinionated, but heck most of us here are!
