Hey Don, I sent you a PM. I am also excited about your 480ci. Poncho. I am looking forward to see how broad the torque band will be with your combo, and others builds either smaller or larger ci. versions, showing that the New Ram Air V heads will look Classic and yet be able to perform as high tech modern heads do.

Jack, If your looking at the caps, I did pin them in the center. The block I pinned at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock.

Thanks Guy's for your support. The 480 is coming along slow but sure. I should have some more of the pieces by the end of this week or top of next week I hope. My intentions were to to make the Engine Masters Challenge, but unfortunately all of my parts did not arrive on time. Just a snap shot of behind the seen for everyone to get an idea why it takes so long to get your project completed. I ordered the parts for this build in April this year. Most of the parts arrived at my shop in about 4-6 weeks. Unfortunately some of the major components like lifters, rocker shafts, valves, and my intakes have taken way longer than I anticipated to get completed. I know that it is frustrating to set and wait and wait, and wait, but it is totally out of my control. The absolute hardest part of my job is always telling the customers that I am not done BECAUSE. It even happens to me. Actually it happens to me more than my customers, because I always put them first. I tell everyone, I don't make money until you pick your engine up, not by keeping your project here LOL. Anyway that's were I am at right now with my build . I will get the engine completed and I will dyno it so everyone can see what my heads will do. Please have patience with the long process, it will be worth the wait.

Thanks,
Don Johnston

Don, just the fact that you are in the game makes the wait worthwhile for most people.

Amen Don...Stay with it. Many thanks for your dedication and extended efforts on this very neat head project and engine build. Do it right the first time and never look back.

When the going gets tough the tough get going.
See you soon,
Jim

Don's DCI Ram Air V heads are beautiful looking and will look great in any of our Classic Pontiacs, to rails, to funny cars. That is the great thing about them, they were the HIGH WATER POINT heads, for Pontiac at it's peak. So for the loyal Pontiac Lover here, IT is a dream come true to be able to get your hands on a modern retro recreation of these great heads. Remember everyone, PART of the REASON that we are here on the boards, is WE Love Pontiacs, and WE BELIEVE that THEY are COOL!!!!! So looking COOL while having fun and GOING FAST is a VERY BIG PART of IT.

In addition to being cool, and being true to the in-line Pontiac head design, the advantages to power adder combinations can't be overstated. Splitting those center exhaust ports makes the head gasket issues simply go away. Would you believe we are running the SAME pair of head gaskets we started with 3 years ago? Through the fire and countless sets of pistons and bearings, the same 2 head gaskets without even a hint of leakage anywhere. That's with 10 head bolts by the way. Heads and block .000-.001 total warpage. Having maximum heat spread evenly through the head does a world of good. Keep it up Don, can't wait to see multiple cars with these heads at the starting line!

Appearance was very important to me when I designed my heads. I wanted that nostalgic look as well as performance.

Mike, that is really good info Thanks. Which head gaskets do you run?

George, You need to start saving and planning for next year LOL !!!! The Nationals will be here before you know it.

Don, we are running Flattout .080 soft copper coated gaskets, installed 100% dry. Of course, we run no water, it's all cylinder pressure. We have 9/16" studs direct tapped in the IA II block, 10 studs, stock location, 130 Lbs. torque with ARP Ultralube. The block has a receiver groove in it and a .041 wire in the head. That's it. Best of luck, I just love seeing this take shape!.

Thanks Mike for the info. I am sure it will be helpful for anyone using these heads with a power adder or normally aspirated.

Jack, Unfortunately I could not get all of the parts in time for the competition. Hopefully next year I will be better prepared.

If a guy were to use these heads on a bracket motor what would be the better strategy, Hi-RPM short stroke horsepower, or Hi-torque low RPM long stroke horsepower?

It seems to me the short stroke Hi RPM style engine would be the best way to use these heads. Something that would sing a sweet song on the big end.

Don, what rocker arms will the heads use? Sorry if this has already been discussed. I didnt see it in the thread. Im trying to put together a parts list of what I will need to swap over to the RAV heads. Intake, headers, cam...what else. I think my pistons will be ok, as the valve reliefs are the same on intake and exhaust.
