They are available, but an extended cab with an 8’ bed is a better choice for a camper. My point was that he made a poor choice for what he intended to do. Both the truck dealer and the camper dealer gave him false information because they only wanted to make a sale.

There are those of us who no longer work hard (retired) but still want a pickup truck. You can no longer buy a regular cab short bed truck. In fact, GM has stopped making even extended cab Canyon/Colorado trucks. Crew cabs only. As I stated already, they’ve become luxury family sedans most of which never have anything in the bed.

I've only owned 1 short bed truck, a 2001 Dakota quad cab. It was a great truck being fast and handled awesome. Next to useless as a truck with that small box on the back.

MOST, is the word I used, Know nothing about the Ram or Chevy/GMC line for trucks.
As far as the Ford Trucks go, You could order a the following: 2022 Ford F-150 Bed Options & Model Availability. There are three cargo bed options for the 2022 Ford F-150 — a 5.5-foot bed, 6.5-foot bed, and 8-foot bed. The short bed is available exclusively with SuperCrew cab models, while the long bed is available with regular and SuperCab F-150 models. No 8 foot long bed available with the Crew Cab Truck. Has been that way for years to my understanding. But RAM Trucks and Chevy/GMC trucks may have a different policy. But post up these extended bed crew cab examples for a Ford Truck. Tom V.

There are 14 new Ford SD crew cabs with 8’ beds in stock within 20 miles of me. F150s are not designed for in bed campers so it doesn’t really matter.
https://shop.ford.com/inventory/supe...larBuild=false With the shorter bed, the weight of the fresh water tank plus the grey water tank certainly adds to the problem. That motorcycle adds a lot more. I think he was lucky to go as far as he did before having his problem. The camper was probably porpoising until the frame weakened enough to break. Having driven one across country and back, they catch a lot of air. I don’t recall the weight but his is pretty heavy.

This all could've been avoided if they had bought a fifth wheel camper

Probably most of the mods were not done by the owners but by a "fabricator" who had no knowledge of the dangerous situation they were putting the owners in. The 4X4 truck being one of the best examples of how to do it totally wrong. Tom V.

...don't forget it has a 4x4 of wood to support with a piece of plywood to spread the load.

Every truck has it's quirks and being I work a parts counter I see what sells a lot for different makes. With Ford it's steering boxes, ICP parts, vacuum pumps and steering parts, GM trucks seem to eat wheel hub assemblies and fuel pumps. The Dodges seem to have a lot of electrical Gremlins going by the code scans we do. No truck is perfect!

That story on the MPG egr increase makes sense. we had a 2012 2500 Cummins RAM in the family that would end up with over a quart extra in the oil pan of pure diesel. Dealer said to under fill the engine by a quart so it would be full of the diesel diluted oil by change time. Truck did the same with oil turning dirty almost immediately. Both 2003 trucks the oil stays clean for thousands of miles. We hauled a bit heavy with my nephews 2500 long box getting my new old digger home,. Would have used my Cummins but it is set up for fifth wheel and the only trailer at the time was the gooseneck. Thought the backhoe weighed 11.6Klb but after doing a bit more research think the load was closer to 14k plus the trailer. I Like my Cummins but the gas Hemi in the 2015 really did a really decent job of towing a heavy load.
