I rebuilt it and I'm thinking about using it in my 67 GTO. Luckily, no damage was done to the case. Just 1st and the cluster? gear. Then again, I might go for another TKO! LOL

Jeff,

Excellent, should be no problem getting the correct location with those options on the McLeod shifter. Thanks.

Silver Judge,

I don't think the floorpan mods are that crazy that your carpet won't hide them just fine. There was a guy on the boards that did a conversion with a 70 or 71. If I can find the pictures, I'll post them.

I am leaning towards doing the TKO swap for my '65 as well, but I am a little scared of the need to fabricate new sheetmetal for the tunnel. Any ideas? Does Classic Chevy have any plans to sell a prefab piece? If so, I could get really excited about a swap.

We now have a prefabricated tunnel patch with a cut out template and installation instructions. One of your fellow forum members is test fitting it into hos 64-67 GTO as we speak. It was designed by a guy with a 64-67 Chevelle and has been test fitted into the 64-67 Chevelles. We are assuming that it will work for the GTO's as well. We should have an answer within a few days.

If I had a need for a Nash I would do it but I am good in that department.
Thanks anyway.

Any word on fitment of the tunnel patch into the GTO? I'd really like to know so that I can decide whether to take advantage of the group purchase which ends in a week or so.

And as a side note, is this a swap that can be accomplished by someone with limited mechanical knowledge? I can work a cutoff wheel, do oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, etc, but I've never swapped a tranny before. But I am up for a challenge.

If factory-style carpet pattern covers the floorpan mods in a non-console application, then this is sounding better!

Default TKO tunnel patcg for GTO

The tunnel patch will work for the 64-67 GTO. One of the PY members (gearbanger - Alex Godsey) checked it out on his 64-67 and he said it would work just fine.
If you have any questions feel free to call me our get intouch with gearbanger for his thoughts.

The people who have done this install (with and without consoles) have given us positive feedback and have been very happy with the looks of the install after it was complete.

Brandi-
I can't say for sure if th epatch will work properly for the 68-72's but I have been told by people who have these year cars that it should work with a few minor mods. I need a guinea pig to find out for sure.

Default McLeod low profile offset shifter for TKO trannys

Just an update. I got one of the McLeod low profile/offset shifters for my TKO-600. Havent put a ton of miles on it, but it fits the console very well and has a very nice feel. I especially like the way this shifter is spring loaded and has 3 distinct gates (1/2, 3/4, 5/R). Its real easy to romp the throttle in first gear and grab second quick enough to keep the tires spinning (and I have 345's). The shift to third is also easier, due to the springs. If you need an offset shifter, you should give this one a close look.

Hello All!

Phil, thank you again for the wonderful walk thru on your install. I have been eyeing this tranny for some time for my 66 GTO conv. With word of the new shifter, the new prefab patch panel and cross member. I think it time to do some serious begging to the wife. 8) I did notice that there was mention of a 'group by'. If that is true, where can I get the details on it?

Thanks,
Rikk
