ps I had about $1200 in the bare castings then you add the cost for the valves, springs, etc and you get close to 2K. Then Marty, Scott Tiemann, Myself, and two other guys did a package deal with Valeko for Porting so maybe $3,000 in the one set of heads I have designed for boost. This was 1996 prices.

I have $3,000 in my Dports and they have made great door stops since I got them back from SD Performance. I really need to get the motor together again, but I have not had the desire to work on my car lately.

Thumbs up I am also happy with head purchase.

I have about $2100 in my factory iron d-ports including purchase price(used), new springs, new retainers, new roller rockers. add about $250 for last valve job. Wanted to break into tens, now looking to break into nines. I also am happy with my purchase!

Should of said I am very happy with my heads; even before Dave worked on them. I will go with some other heads in the future when I get my turbo build up and going.

Greg,

I would agree, it sounds like a fair price. I would expect the total cost would have been a bit more from Jim if he had to spend the amount of time just taking material out of the heads if they weren't CNC. Reworking the short turn and adding epoxy can be very time consuming.

I know someone who recently paid over 4k to rework a set of iron pontiac heads. It wasn't one of my customers, yet.

So you see they were not the basic 340 as cast HP heads. They were the CNC ported heads. Costing more. Apology accepted Gach, as I know you won't post it. LOL.

Thanks Greg for clearing it up.

It's the back and forth setting up & checking people forget about. Time consuming. And time is money when it's your living and not a after a regular job hobby.
