Yup mine. As found in a Delaware junkyard, pic by Alex Beam.
then when finished in 2010. Was reunited with Roy Tyner's son Tripp this past summer in MI at St John's Concours. An honor to take Tripp in it to pick up the Lion Award for our class. Esp when we put down a sideways noisy exit from the award stand. Grass and dust flying, Baby! |

They would have to be replicas - the original cars are far too valuable to race again. They could even have modern drive lines for reliability and cost savings. Who wouldn't pay to watch a Superbird getting chased by a Torino Talladega?
I'd much rather watch that than the little pickup trucks they run now.

The NASCAR truck series racing is some of the best in motor sports! There's more real racing, beating and banging than in the other series by far. But yes it would be cool to see the classics back on the track.

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the truck series too & was at the race at Daytona in 2000 when Jeffrey Bodine wrecked. The "real" racing in that series is due more to the drivers willingness to race than it is the vehicle. Take those same drivers & put them in classic cars & I think the stands would be filled again.

I had come home for lunch that day, and turned on the idiot box (which I normally did not do...). If i remember correctly the engine completely separated it self from the rest of the vehicle, and was rolling like a bowling ball.............Mr. Bodine was never the same after that ordeal.... Oh, I remember now, I was watching because it was the first truck race @ Daytona. I turned it on because I was hoping to see some exciting racing... and did...

We were in the stands about mid way between where the cage came to rest and the engine. Nobody was talking, the whole place was holding their breath, we were certain somebody had just died. When they put him on the stretcher & started to head towards the ambulance to put him in he reached up to adjust his oxygen mask - the place erupted!

And the Government Motors pace car burst into flames. Must have been a re-skinned VOLT.

Is it only me or has NASCAR gotten to be just like WWE, staged? Last year, Danica Patrick wins the pole at Daytona then is not a factor the rest of the year. Today, the #3 car, with Austin Dillon (Richard Childress grandson) wins the pole. What's the odds that he'll not finish in the top 20 in the points this year? Seems like the powers that be might just be turning their heads and letting these teams get away with a little something just for the extra publicity for the next week. And I'm definitely not a Jimmy Johnson fan, but keeping him in inspection over 1/1000 of an inch? Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I watched it as long as JR was on the pole and as soon as he got knocked off, I turned the channel.

If you've read Smokey Yunick's book, Best Damn Garage in Town (and believe him, I do) The powers to be can do what ever they want to do, when they want to...remember Richard Petty's win, w/ Pres. Reagan there (Daytona???). I used to watch NASCAR, after Dale Sr. passed, it's meaningless to me...

I use to like watching , but thats when you had all the mgf.'s with there own cars. You had a race to see which real car could win. Now it's which copy of the copy of the copy thats running the corp. engine that that the same guy who built the same engine for the same copy of the same team gets to win this week because they spent the most money on the advertisements for the TV sponsor this week. All the cars are the same It's no fun watching a bunch of copy cats running. It's BORING, It's like watching an old HO race car set in your basement. OPP's another one fell off the track. No fun at all.

So when the remnants of Chrysler get sold off and it no longer exists as an American Make what's NASCAR gonna do with only Chevy, FORD & TOYO?
KIA, TATA, Hyundai, Renault, and?..... |
