Got this 400 tore down a little...
She put up a good fight, but I eventually won. Ended up cutting one of the long bolts that ran thru the WP & timing cover into the block that wouldn't break loose. Everything didnt slide off like I read tho. |

Lol. Still struggling with these damn pictures. 🤬
Last post has a picture of my Q-Jet I just received back. Hopefully this post includes the picture of the engine that was supposed to go with the last post |

Couldnt slide the cover over the bolt. Had to fight it off with vise grips. Then once off the engine, I still can't get it out of the cover. Doesnt matter much since the cover got broke during removal. I broke the outer edge, but noticed it is also broke inside. Dont know how that happened.
Also, that cover is a 527292 which is supposed to be from a 76-79 400, so I can only assume that when that aftermarket WP was installed, maybe the original timing cover was replaced as well |

Had Quadrajet Power rebuild that carburetor. Really pleased with how it turned out. Hopefully it runs as good as it looks. Original alternator is also out for a rebuild. Gonna clean up the engine bay when everything goes back together.

Quick question also.
Are those timing covers factory installed with no engine paint on them? I dont see any evidence on paint on mine, but according to the part number, its not the factory one. |

They are painted at factory.

Sometimes they need replacing along the way.
The last water pump replacement might have pulled out the threads with a couple of bolts. All kinds of things can happen to them. Some of them require 2 removable tube assemblies , and a divider plate. Internal parts. |

Any suggestions on which engine paint to use. Is this Inline Tube 66-70 Pontiac Blue Silver metallic the correct shade?
According to them, the color changed in 71? |

Yes, that would be correct for a '70.

Thank you sir. It appears to have some of that color left on the harmonic balancer, behind where the pulley was. I think the intake & front of the motor has been touched up at some point with the 71 shade of engine paint

Is this clutch fan correct for my 70? And what is a good way to clean these?

Got around to decoding my distributor & finding the VIN number down by the timing cover.
Distributor is original. Date code M 9 14 |

Is this radiator original??
It has Harrison stamped on it. Has the letters C U stamped on the tank Has a tag stamped on it that I assume came from a Radiator Shop repair, possibly. It says 003271 Nelton Radiator Phoenix, AZ 80564 5 25 |

CU on one tank would be correct for an auto trans 70 radiator. There should be a code on the other tank as well - "IF", I think.

Also, we’ve seen quite a few original 4 speed cars with the automatic, CU Radiator, and have the big head plugs in the cooler line openings. Seen this on multiple years. |

Thanks guys!
I'll have to look on the other tank for a stamping. I didnt look at that one. I think its neat also that a radiator shop put that tag on it at some point. I have quite a few maintenance records from the original owner. I'll have to look through those again & see if I see one from that shop |

Ended up needing a recore on my original 70 Radiator.
Ellet Radiator in Akron, OH did the services. Looks like they did a nice job. Ready for another 56yrs of service. 👍 |

In case anybody missed it, in the What did you do to your Pontiac today thread...
After 4 long months, I finally have my 400 back together. Quite pleased with the results. 56yrs & 99K miles sure left a lot of dirt & grime in there.😳 Hopefully no issues when we put some "fire in the hole". 🤞🤞🙏 |
