I should've put those away and put some junkers under it, but the ones it had were old bias ply tires and were all shot so this was easier, should have probably jacked it up off the ground over the winter.

No photos but I have been spending a lot of time in the garage sanding skim coats. One more quarter panel to go but the doors and fenders are on the car. lucked out on the pass side door, the rear gaps were perfect my first try. Bet I could never do that again. Wife is due to have our first (ever) baby in October so I am going to go gangbusters on this thing prior to that. Today I told her "I bet I can have that thing painted in 2 months!".

Started blocking high build. I should have laid down more coats the 1st time and I used a different gun than usual so it wasn't set up quite right. Now that most of this is scratched off when it warms up a bit I'll lay down another 3 coats. (only did 2 last time)

Blocking is almost done! Realized on the pics above why they are so leopard-ish, i didn't put nearly enough coats of high build on. But its fun to sand for practice., I guess. This is after 4 or 5 coats and blocking with 220.



I have since sprayed 2 more coats and blocked again with 320 and it is as smooth as glass, and all my lows are gone. Going to go over again with 400 and still undecided if I will wetsand with 600 or just stop at 400.

Not much happened this summer, wife was on hospital bedrest 2 months in portland (2.5 hrs west of here), son in NICU for 3 weeks and as of monday we are finally home. Needless to say I have missed my garage something fierce and hopefully get a bunch done tomorrow.

20 year reunion is next year, now wouldn't that be a great goal to set for getting this thing done?

Thanks Rick and Keith! He is now 2 months old and doing great & growing like a weed.

I ended up cutting the patches out of the pass side because I was never happy with the fit. Got a quarter skin and after beating the UPS dents back out of it, (it was obviously dropped from a fair height right onto the back end of it) I am 100 times happier with the way it fits. Hood and trunklid are ready for primer, pass quarter is ready for skimcoat and a ton of sanding.

Next I gotta work on the endura some more and figure out how to go about getting the jambs done.

I was planning on scuffing the jambs and shooting with epoxy and then high build, and sanding with 220 then ??? recommendations on doing this welcome!

More congrats on the young'n.
Jeremy, I just scuffed my jambs, washed and degreased thouroughly and sprayed. Unless you've got scratches and gouges in the original paint that you're concerned about, you won't need the high build. You won't need the epoxy either if the original paint is still there and not rusty..in my opinion, that is...

I have been working a lot but not taking many photos, well because there really isn't much need for many at this stage.

Got the headlight doors done, well the hard ones anyway. Not perfect but I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.


Starting to work on jambs now, lower valence is the last metal piece and then endura. Hoping to have some color on the jambs soon. That trunklid gave me a hell of a time. I warped it pretty good sandblasting and had to use the ol shrinking disk pretty intensively so an otherwise harmless panel took a good number of hours. I had to patch the lower corners and one on the inside.


Not sure why I felt so compelled to buy this NOS ash tray, but I guess I liked that it wasn't all rusted to hell and has the shiny zinc coating on it.

Finally did some jambs, really impressed with this color! Paint is TCP global's house brand. I haven't shot BC before but I have never had paint lay down this well before. I was also using my devilbiss finishline 3 for the first time. No orangepeel at all. Main screwups was where I let the air hose hit the trunk opening and where I kicked the lower door jamb when I was trying to step into the car to paint the top of the window frame. I did NOT spend a lot of time on prep since it was "just a jamb" and final sanding was with 400.



Pretty much just have the endura left to do now.

Does TCP global offer factory colors or did you just pick a color that you like? If I recall, yours is Meridian like mine isn't it?
After I get past the major obstacle of rigging up some type of paint booth outside...grrr... I need to order some paint.

They have factory colors. On their website is a listing of factory color chips by year and manufacturer, so you can go to 68 pontiac and see all their colors and then fill in exactly what you want by color code. Mine is also meridian, correct.

Endura is finished! This was not as hard as I thought, and that SPI epoxy primer sands really well.

Next is one small spot on the LH fender to fix then block it out, and finish prepping the jamb areas, then wetsand the whole thing with 600 and it'll be ready for paint.

I have nicknamed my chevelle "james bondodust" during this project, for obvious reasons.

That "small spot" on the fender turned out to be a pretty good sized pain.

Got some more jambs done today. All that is left is the RH fender and door. Still crazy about that color.

I got a little better at shooting the SPI universal clear. This stuff needs to be laid down THICK. I had one place where I sprayed it on (or so i thought) way too heavy and it wrinkled some. It flattened itself out completely and looked fine. (fine for the underside of the trunk lid, anyway.
