I ended up getting the PHS and it was useful...
BTW, I saw your recent Lemans acquisition... Very nice... Wish I was able to get this car finished sooner... Oh well, quarters should be in soon and I'm prepping stuff for the interior... Moving along slowly but surely. |

Latest update is that no one makes the complete proper interior for my car... (at least from what I can find)
Here's my other thread with more details... http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...80387#poststop |

So, went to the shop today (forgot my stupid camera!).
The quarters are mocked in and no we're having a problem with the trunk extensions not lining up with the quarters. Additionally, since this car looks to have been had been kissed in the rear some time ago, we're having some issues lining up all the panels. It never ends.... ![]() Body shop is asking for some pics of completed rear ends for the 67 Tempest. They want to make sure everything is lining up properly. If anyone has some, please feel free to post here. |

Remembered my camera this time!
Here's a few pics of the progress. We're stuck now for a little bit while we try and figure out to do about the terrible fitment of the quarter skins in relation to the trunk extensions or maybe vice versa... Look at the pics to see what I mean. Also been shopping around for a "correct" Tempest interior so that I could start lining up my ducks and be ready to go when the time comes... Apparently, the Tempest is highly neglected and only PUI makes some stuff (not all) for the car.... Still working on that as one of the board members "1967Tempest" has already warned me about cloning this car into a GTO... Apparently I would be put on some "list" ![]() Also, quick thanks to Paul for the nice trunk lid... We're making more progress... On to the pics: |

More pics of the ugly stuff:
Notice the gap on the right side vs. the left side. Notice, also that one extension is edp coated and the other is not... The ill fitting side (right) has a sticker affixed to it that says its for a 66-67. My body shop thinks the part was mislabeled and wants a new panel as "fixing" this could get pricey. What do you guys think? |

Those panels may be listed as 66-67 but they are for a 66 and a poor fit at that. There are minor differences in the 67 and these panels require a lot of work to make them fit.
I had a bad passenger side that had to be replaced. I found a junked body and cut the old quarters out of it to use. I still had to buy the lower patch panel but it was a lot easier than trying to make the repo panels work.

I had forgotten about the quarter patch panels... I had ordered them so they're also at the shop... I will remind the guys that the panels are there. Might make things a little easier. Thanks!

Finally an update! I stopped by the shop and they've managed to get the quarters on and we're moving ahead slowly... Been thinking that we will be reaching a good stopping point soon and shelving the project due to funding issues. Nevertheless, here's a pic of the progress:

I saw your post. Thanks. I had wanted to go with Legendary but they don't offer a complete "Tempest" interior. Only GTO and Lemans... PUI doesn't really either but I've managed to cobble pieces together (have not ordered yet) as I have been contemplating pausing for a while or selling the project as funding is tight.
If I do a GTO clone, I can do the GTO interior. Otherwise, I'm trying to go 100% correct Tempest. It never ends.

I guess it's a little yes and a little no...
I managed to get the body shot in an epoxy primer and some hot rod black (satin) for now... I was all set to start the reassembly but was overwhelmed with questions so I started a different thread to prevent this one from getting off track. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=742665 At this point it's been fits and starts... Lack of money is usually the biggest obstacle and since we're in the home stretch with my wife's school, (she's graduating this May and we're looking at residencies, possibly moving, etc...) it's hectic to say the least... The goal was to have a running car by the graduation date as this was a graduation gift for her. (with her input and help of course- she wouldn't have it any other way). My plan was to tinker over the winter but it's been so terrible out that I've not managed to do much and I've discovered that even if we switched gears a little, (I'll elaborate below)- that there are still lots of "basics" that need to be addressed. My initial plan was to restomod the car and drop in an LS engine. She wanted 100% stock so we had the original 326 engine and ST-300 trans rebuilt and they're sitting and waiting. I even sourced an 8.5 posi rear end (drum to drum) to install- it was blasted and painted and is sitting also. (I figured the ST-300 would get tiring quick and then I'd swap in a trans with OD and a new posi gear set and we'd be good to go). All the metal work on the body was completed and the car was painted in a Satin black in order to prevent rust and to move us one step further. With all of the expenses of Graduate school and moving closer to the school to make things easier for her, I'm always short on cash so I mentioned that maybe we should put the 100% original plan on hold and maybe do a sort of rat-rod theme where we just put in the engine and trans and some seats and get the thing running and moving under it's own power and then once we have her income coming in as well we could then blow it apart and finish it properly. She liked the idea and we set about trying to do that. Problem is that I planned to re-use the original wiring. (There was some online debate thanks to another post I made) and I figured I'd replace some and re-use some... Turns out that 1) I cannot find where I "stored" the original wires, and 2) the ones I found and thought were good, were a little more brittle and chewed up than I had initially remembered. SO, I'm looking at all new harnesses front to back- about $700 worth... Since that's a bit steep right now, I decided to try and focus on putting the last odds and ends on the engine- water pump, distributor, fuel pump, etc... I did not realize that I would run into so many questions and a huge hubub about water pumps and backing plates. More here: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=746346 That, and I had forgotten that I am not really familiar with older cars. I know nothing about points, dwell, carburetors, etc... (fuel injection, yes. This older stuff, no) So, lately I've just been reading and asking stupid questions here trying to get an idea of how to proceed. Slowly but surely is about all I can say. So, to summarize this epic tome here's what's been done: 1. Body (metal work/primer paint) 2. Engine/trans 3. Gauges restored by Pete Serio Now there's just the matter of getting all the little things that help to tie this all together. (sounds easy but it's a bunch of stuff.) As I begin to make progress I will post again. Right now, I'm guessing that we'll be dead in the water for a few months as the "boss" has asked me to put it on the back burner as we have more important issues to deal with at the present time. ![]() So, Charles, Are you sorry you asked? LOL

Boostmaster-
Sounds like you have a plan. Don't worry about the slow down most everyone experiences it. Sometime life just gets in the way. Sounds like everything on the body is protected, which is good. With this crazy winter I have not been able to do everything I had plan, it just to $&@! Cold to go out into the shop and get to work

I had a 66 Tempest Custom back in the mid 70s that I installed the 66 GTO grills on. Also used a 65 GTO hood without the arrow. I left the rear as a Tempest and the interior too.... bench front seat along with the column shift. Looked sharp IMO for the times. like a fool I traded it in on a 71 Camaro. Someone thought is was kinda cool as it only sat on the dealers lot for a couple of weeks and disappeared. So going as a GTO 'tribute' for the frontend with yours wouldn't be a bad thing. But seeing the 66 and 67 Tempest Customs are far and few between these days, I can understand it's a hard decision to make.

It'll go to 100% stock original when the "boss" is finally working. Right now, it's been too tight with the finances so the "rat rod" look/style will work. She likes it and it'll be easier on the pocket book...
Tempted to find a used black front bench to pop in there. (All our stuff was stripped to the metal and we have not ordered upholstery)- When we do it'll all be at one time so that all the colors will be correct matches. Anyway, the plans are kind of on hold at the present while we sort out logistics and so forth. |
