Obviously to get 700 cid you are moving the bore spacing? What would the bore spacing be vs the deck height?

(Just Joking!)I really think talking about bore spacing is superfluous. We do whatever we need to do in order to get the bore/power the customer wants. Even my 455SD SS engine doesnt have the stock bore spacing. It is the first thing a SSer and Ser does for power is to offset the bore. It is why you see lots of blocks in NHRA done with 8 sleeves. Deck height the same thing, whatever fits for the bore and stroke the customer wants. A 400 cubic inch engine with a 10.250 deck height is ridiculous in my book. Yes Lynn, we have looked at "W" Bore Blocks several times over the years. So how much deck do you have left on the block after the .400 short deck?

It really depends on which block you wish ie what bore and stroke desired. Most blocks come with a 0.650 inch deck, so cutting .400 is no problem. However if we rub the sand cores we can add metal in the critical areas. Each block has its own critical factors. Best thing for me to ask is what exactly are you looking for and I will see if we can do it. Lynn |

Greg, the water jacketed heads are done, however we are not yet into production. We are going to spend the next few weeks in QC, flow bench, porting, etc.

Its my understanding that a BBC is 9.8 and a tall deck is 10.2 ???

Man I had a bunch of mixed concepts in my typing that time.
I was thinking -.400 from a traditional Pontiac 10.243 would be about 9.8 but many think that the Ford 9.2 deck is a better deal all around so it you were going to do a short deck then do a 9.2 vs a 9.8. It never came out that way though. LOL Too late to learn how to type correctly and sometimes too lazy to proofread properly. Thanks Tom S and Cgeise. Tom Vaught

I know the IA-II blocks have about 0.650 on the deck. I dont see what is wrong with going down to 9.800. The Hemi guys do it all the time. They have the same deck thickness and often go from 10.750 down to 10.200 to 10.300. The really fast ones rub the sand molds and get down to 9.800. Makes for a really light piston for that short 3.75 stroke.

Cool thanks Tom, on your short deck street engines what compression ratio seems to be working out? Tom V could probably answer another question, but we have always used the fact that a turbo doubles cubic inch relative size by enhancing induction like a big cubic inch engine draws air. So what pounds of boost is required to double relative cubic inch size?
IE....300CID = 600 CID or 400CID = 800CID @ X lbs of boost. X = ? (my guess is 12?) |

I try and stay with 9.5 on a N/A engine with 91 gas.I think my current engine is 10.1 and seems OK.Tom
