I pretty sure you can get a stock style tank with an in-tank fuel pump already installed from Rock Auto http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

I used one from Tanks Inc. in my 69 LeMans. I am very happy with it.

The Spectre ones from RockAuto I don't believe have the same type of sump as the Tanks, Inc ones do. I recently purchased a Tanks Inc EFI tank, used a pickup for an external pump, and am going to convert to a throttle body EFI and in tank pump in the spring.

I will be doing an EFI on the 71 LeMans I have, and plan on using the Tanks, Inc one, since I'm familiar with them and find the sumps very functional. One complaint I have is the fill necks are 2 piece, and don't have a baffle, which can sometimes spit at you when you fill it at the station.

I recently converted my stock fuel tank with a fuel system from a Holden VE Commodore - think Pontiac G8 over there. A local place makes a weld-in adapter ring and seal kit, I just spent some time making it all work once I sourced all the bits inside of the tank.

Weld in ring

Fuel system with secondary pickup

Fitted

I fitted a DeautschWorks pump to replace the OEM one. This holden tank is not very tall at all, maybe 7", so height of some OEM buckets has been a challenge for me.

Nice work as usual krisr, you are a true hot rodder!

Guess shipping would kill you from here to there on something the size of a tank, huh? The Tanks, Inc tanks are like $225 US, curious how that would cost for you?

We built a custom stainless 28 gallon for my project. Has a Fuel safe 3 trap door gravitry sump, fuel safe .750" surface pickup, diagonal baffles to direct the fuel to the sump, sender, Magnafuel 4701 in tank pump, inspection panel, #10 return and vent. Ended up putting the fuel door in the panel just in front of the trunk lid. The factory one by the license plate just wasn't going to cut it.

Yeah that Aeromotive phantom setup is very flash. Very expensive but when you add up the cost of a conversion/fabrication, it's pretty economical. It's the way i'd go if I was doing another fuel tank again that's for sure!

I've done similar mods for to my stock tank for future fuel injection with a sump AN fittings etc. But if I were to jump to EFI today my pump system would be Edelbrock.

It enables the use of a stock tank and if the pump ever fails access would be much easier than an in tank set up. Their all in one sump and pump is good for 600 horsepower on the 58psi version. Just another option to consider. Good luck on your EFI conversion.

Marty P did the same deal as the Edelbrock years ago on his daughter's efi Grand Prix.

Used the low pressure mechanical fuel pump to keep the remote front box filled, (excess gas from the box went back to the rear tank).

High pressure efi fuel pump fed the injectors.
Unused fuel went back to the box from the high pressure regulator.

Simple and worked well.

I've got one of those Edelbrock tanks for sale, if anyone is interested. I used it for about 2 hours, as an experiment with a FAST system.

Ended up replacing it with a TanksInc tank and the FAST in-tank pump/fuel system, which works great for me.

FWIW, the Edelbrock tank MAY have worked fine with the FAST system. I was having issues transitioning from cruise to idle, and THOUGHT the problem was related to the Edelbrock tank being a non-return and the FAST system designed for return. Turned out that the throttle body had a wiring issue, but I had already removed the stock fuel pump, the Edelbrock tank, and installed the TanksInc/FAST fuel system by then.

When I go EFI ill be doing the tanks inc setup. Its like 500-525 bucks with the Walboro pump, sending unit, powdercoated and looks to be very good quality. Cant beat that.

Let me know if you need someone to watch you do it. I've been wanting to do this for a while.

I can now confirm that my fuel conversion works!. Set the regulator at the front to 50psi fuel pressure, no leaks, just need to tweak the fuel float and we're set! Man intank fuel pumps are nice and quiet compared to the old Bosch 044 external!

Great to hear you had good results krisr!

Like I mentioned on another thread, I will be going to a Tanks, Inc setup with an in tank pump and selling my stainless custom Rock Valley tank. Once I wipe it down and take some pics I will post it in the for sale section, and wait to put it on ebay for like a week.

Just put the Aeromotive tank (tank is made by Tanks, Inc) with the 340 pump in my 71. Haven't driven it yet, but it fit like a charm. No more hanging fuel pumps and fuel lines exposed to damage.

Sorry, no in-car pictures yet.

I like the idea of the RobbMc Power Serge tank.

I like the basic approach Tom mentions in post 11. Simply an overflow type return.

It would also work well for those running a belt driven fuel injection pump... a simple quiet std pressure electric pump like a carter or holley could feed the front tank... Iirc a std carter free flows around 70 gph (thats@420 lb/hr at near zero pressure)... Quieter would be something like the in tank pumps commonly found on early TBI cars(early s10 4cyl comes to mind) that pump @ 15 psi (near zero with free flowing overflow return system from front)and are easy to "splice" into existing non efi tank pickup. Would be quiet and cool running when running free flow vs under pressure. Not sure what they free flow though.

The front tank would keep the pump primed for easy starts and not require cable drive rear mounting of mechanical efi pump. You could add a float switch and relay to cycle std pump on when front tank level drops to point you determine is minimum level to keep efi pump happy.
