Like I said, I have these exact ones on my setup and they are loud, not as loud as bullets, but for Super Turbo mufflers, people here me coming. Sure it has everything to do with the engine and cam.

Mark, my cam is a 286/297 SR (248/260) .577/.589 lift on a 113 lsa

Are your dur@.050 and lift numbers close to mine? I'm also running 1.6 rockers.

I'm planning on taking before & after video and db readings if time/schedules allow.

I am currently running a solid flat, my duration at .050 275/289, my adv duration is 312/322, lift is .580/.600 It's a pretty big flat cam.

We're both running pretty big solid rollers! Moving a lot of air... making a lot of noise!

Mine is not a roller, mine is a flat tappet solid.

But agree moving air and making noise.

Hi Skip! Not this time around... I have the BMR Torque Arm on the car and there's just no room for an X so I have an H just in front of the transmission crossmember.

On my old Pypes 2.5" system with their X and 2.5" RacePros it was perfect behind the 390hp 406 combo!

Add 200hp, a big cam and 3" exhaust with just the H pipe and it's too loud for the suburbs (unfortunately).

I have run 3" Dynomax VTs with 1 3/4" primary, 3" collector round-port headers, X-pipe 3" all the way out of the back. It is quiet as a church mouse unless you get on it. It has no drone, even with the top down. The in-car video appears MUCH louder than it actually is as I have never heard that vibration at 0:19 before- only in the video. Most common complaint with (only motor head) passengers is that it's too quiet. You can have a normal conversation up to about (posted) highway speeds; after that wind noise (with the top down) takes over. Similar builds are around 550 hp, but mine is nowhere near that, even taking into account drive train loss on the chassis dyno (pulled 360 hp, 400 ft. lbs. torque). I may be having fuel supply issues as plugs are completely white (no fuel ring) after consecutive passes. I have upgraded the fuel system since then. Have yet to get to the track to evaluate real hp. If you want quiet at cruising speeds, this is the ticket. On dyno pull, the operator ran it up to (and bounced off of the rev limiter pill at 5800 rpm- witness the wisps of black smoke out the tailpipes at the end of the pull). Cam is custom ground HR 236/245 114 LSA, heads are E-heads with 300+cfm, trans is 2004R with the pull run in 3rd gear.

The 17743, or if you can fit the 20" case, those are about as quiet as you're going to get it.

The Goerlichs are about the same sound level as the 17734s, but a little louder at WOT. WOT is where you are going to really hear any of them anyway, it's a flow thing.

Guess you could try 2.5" tailpipes, might help some.

Final option is to add resonators, but doubt you can fit those either.

You're just going to have to creep through the 'hood as you come and go, can't see any other option.

Default 17743

I explored and measured for the possible use of the (Jim Hand favored) 20" 17749, but the only way to do that would be to run the tailpipes under the axle...

I also thought about running 2.5" tails as in Jim & Tom Hand's tests they didn't see any difference at the track. But I already have those pretty 3" stainless tailpipes on the car that I'd really hate to replace as it took a lot of time and effort to get those to work with the watts link etc.

The 3" 17743 with the 14" case will have to do the trick... just hoping they will quiet it down enough at idle with a full 3" exhaust and just an H. We'll see.

KRE 310cfm D-ports
Tomahawk 120x230 ports

As much as I love the sound of my Pypes RacePros with the full 3" exhaust all the way out the back... the neighbors don't. So I have to do something other than the "straight through" mufflers (MF, Goerlich, Borla) and quiet things down if I want to drive the car more often.

Thoughts? How much will the STs choke down the power of the 440?
I'm running 17769s making about 485HP. That is 20" case. They are quite, not loud at all.
Love those mufflers. I have also run the 2.5 inch versions which are even quieter.
But like I said these are 20" case. I'm sure 14" case would be louder

Best option would be to unfriend your neighbors on Facebook IMO. But then again I live out in the boonies and kind make as much racket as I care to.

Mufflers are here... 14" 17743s. I'll try to get them installed this next week and report back with before/after videos and decibel readings from an app I downloaded. It may not be the most accurate but it should measure differences. I'm thinking measurements from 25 and 50 feet should do it... both directly behind and off at a 45-degree angle from the back of the car. Are there any other recommendations? I'm not sure how/where tracks measure when they impose noise restrictions... open to suggestions.

The guy I want to install the new mufflers (good with a TIG) has been out at Moab playing in the dirt but he's back now and I have an appointment Friday afternoon to have the 17743s installed. More to follow...

What benefits do you get from ceramic coating them? If it's not too personal, how much would it cost to have done. I just got some ceramic coated Hooker Super Comp headers for heat protection but this is the first I have heard of doing it to the mufflers. Thanks

Because they'd be "Purdy!" LOL And help with rust. And it's relatively cheap to have them done... $50.

My headers are ceramic so that makes sense... but mostly because the rest of my exhaust including the current mufflers is polished stainless... so just trying to dress them up a little.

It may help slightly with heat but I doubt the exhaust gases will be that hot by the time they get to the mufflers anyway.

Still wishing there was a way to quiet the car down with the polished mufflers that are on there now but there's just no room for an X-pipe or resonators.

I may even add some Schoenfeld 3" inserts ahead of the mufflers if these don't quiet it down enough.

Default Decibel Readings

I did get some decibel readings on the current exhaust...

85-88db inside the car, windows down, while driving... peak of 90db.

That's without rev'ing or WOT... that's just cruising at 30-45mph.

92-93db outside the car, parked, 20' behind car... peak of 95/96db at idle.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has a decibel limit of 92dB.

That sounds really nice and like a great price when you consider the price difference in coated headers is so high. My car gets driven up and down a gravel road from my house to the paved road so I think I would tear up a nice looking exhaust pretty quickly, but I don't have a show quality car either. For now I am just trying to get the drivetrain right and then I will get the paint and body done. Post some pics if you don't mind of the finished mufflers, I would love to see how they come out. Thanks
