Anyone out there make a R59 battery case or replace internals?
I have a reproduction R59 battery in my 1969 GTO from Antique Auto battery that is going to need a replacement.. This is my second one in 15 years so I did well with them I think regarding the lifespan though the first lasted longer than the second.
Since I have the battery already is there anyone out there that can remove the old internals and install a new battery in the case? or, does anyone make a R59 case that would hold a new battery? I did the battery topper years ago and don't want another. I see Antique Auto Battery is under new ownership and the reviews are not good at all and there is a 90 to 120 day lead time for a new one.

Looks like Turbo Start has an AGM version of them. That should last even longer. https://turbostart.com/product/sr59/

I ordered one from Battery Central Mall and received it 17 weeks later this past November. The R59 reproduction is from Antique Auto Battery. I haven't installed it yet. Fully charged open circuit voltage was 12.98V, typical for an AGM type. Cranking Amps measured with an AutoX-ray Battery tester showed 625 cranking amps. They recommend the Bulk Charging current to be no more than 10-12 amps so I bought their recommended charger, a Soneil 1220SR 20CC. I understand that the AGM battery inside the reproduction case is an Odyssey ODS-AGM28L (PC925).
I did nor order the Turbo Start version because the positive terminal is the same size as the negative and the (+) spring ring battery cable won't work with that diameter. Raised letters on factory installed Delco battery cases were unpainted, only the caps. Service replacements in the 60's and early '70s did have them painted. Testor Model Master paint 1705 Insignia Red should be close. From what I can tell, warranty stickers from 1970 & up were applied to service replacement batteries. Does anyone know if the service replacement batteries had them in 1966 to 1969? |

While the Turbo Start sounds like a stronger battery I too have the spring ring cables so the terminal size would be an issue.

Update: I installed the battery from BatteryCentralMall. It started my stock 67 GTO. Garage temp was 65F. Voltages below measured at battery terminals.
Fully charged open circuit voltage - 12.9V Courtesy lamp & clock load - 12.3V Cranking voltage for cold start (min) -8.8V Initial charging voltage -14.7V Everything looks good. |

Just in case anybody gets stuck with an undersized post, they make repair shims. Never used them, just aware of them. HTH.
