Can't possibly be a 416 with that level of Torque !

That block has 3 freeze plugs and 2 engine mount holes. Doesn't that narrow it down to '67-'69? Can't be a 389, can it?

I was also a little curious about that since 461s are typically achieved using a 400 block, not a 389.

They certainly could have built that using a 389 block, but it's pretty clear that they didn't. Not sure why go to all the trouble of calling it a 389 and stating the stock bore, horsepower, etc. I guess they wanted the mystique of using the iconic original Pontiac tri-power performance engine.

The 455s all had more engine mount bolt holes, though, yes?

True, so that's a 428 block since it only has 2 motor mount bolt pads.

You mention the ribs in the lifter valley of the 428s are bigger. The lifter valley doesn't look any different than my '68 400 block. Maybe I don't know where to look to see the difference?

They say it is bored to 4.155" yet the ring compressor has 4.140 written on it and then 4.13. Looks like same bore. Around 2.0 to 2.15 into video.

Its a small journal block, most likely an early 400. All 428 had a large cast pyramid back by the dist (block in vid doesnt have one). Also molnar doesnt make 3.250 journal cranks that i know of. So it has to be a 3.00 main crank. And last, the block in vid was a 2 bolt block without factory outer main bolts drilled (otherwise they couldnt but splayed caps on), i might be wrong but i think all 428s were drilled for 4bolts from the factory, yes?

It's a '69 400 block. There is no transfer lug, the partial VIN begins with "29" and block code is visible, and the center lifter webbing does not have "28" cast in it. The block code is hard to distinguish and looks like it might be poorly stamped. I guess XH.

Yup, I blew it on that detail!
All 428s indeed are tapped for 4 bolts, and only the 2bbl motor with the casting 46 heads was not fitted with the 4 bolt caps.

And to make laugh even more about my flub, I have owned all 3 types of the 428 blocks at one time or another, lol!

Was there a 2-bbl 428? I have a ‘69 YH 360hp 428 that has 2-bolt caps. It is the lowest HP 428 for ‘69. It is a 4-bbl motor, and the block is drilled and tapped for 4-bolt main caps. I thought all were 4-bbl?
