Brake pedal return spring
This should be an easy question for you all. I just want to confirm that a '66 GTO with power brakes should have a brake pedal return spring. The entire time I drove my '66 before restoration, I always had to lift the brake pedal up a little bit to get the brake lights to turn off. It never had a return spring attached to the brake pedal when I drove it back in the day. Now that I'm reassembling everything after restoration, it dawned on me that it probably should!
Here is a diagram of a '64-66 brake pedal assembly for MANUAL brakes that shows a return spring and attachment "extension". However, the diagram I have for '66 power brakes is slightly different and doesn't show a return spring. Power brakes should still have a return spring, right?

Correct, Not listed for use on PB.
Parts book shows the Spring used only on SB models both Tempest and Pontiac and the Spring Extension only listed for Tempest

Thanks, Jeff. I'd have thought the PB cars would still use a return spring, but since they apparently don't, that's one less thing for me to track down and buy.

Don't know why a p/brake car would need a pedal return spring because there is a strong return spring inside the booster.
Just a light anti rattle spring maybe? |
