Default App for Instantaneous MPH?

I'm going to need an iPhone app that tells instantaneous MPH. My '75 Formula project car is going to have different tires and gears; so I'm positive that I'm going to have to recalibrate the speedo. Thoughts?

Oh, and it doesn't have to be free but modest price and works great would be the goal.

I just open up Google maps whenever I want to verify my speedometer….it displays the speed you are going.

You can get a GPS speedometer. Then it wouldn’t matter what ratio or tire size you are using.

I just use Google Maps. It's free, good, and provides real-time traffic conditions. It displays the posted speed limit as well as your actual speed.

Near where you are that is for sure the speed limit! I can remember in college when they dropped it to 55 it took longer to get from College Station to Dallas as it does to get to Dallas from Houston now! The DPS boys still hang out in about the same spots.

I have one for my iPhone called smart gps speedometer that’s free. Phone vertical and it’s “analog” looking, sideways and it’s digital. It works pretty well but there seem to be plenty if you search the App Store including many that were there before when I downloaded mine.

I have an android phone and used DigiHUD quite a bit in the past. GPS speedos are all the rage now, probably a better but pricier option.

If you do a 4L80E swap into an older car, the 4L80e has no provisions for any speedometer other than a electronic pickup. I was going to use a GPS speedometer in my next street project with a 4L80E transmission.

Last thing I want is Google knowing how fast I'm going and where.

Lol, yep! And honestly, it doesn't matter if you're using an Android or iPhone based smartphone, or if you have a mapping app installed. You are traceable and your data is being logged by cell phone companies even if you just have a "dumb-phone" (i.e., non-smartphone) via cell tower triangulation.

This is the route I plan to go when I install a 4L80E (cable drive):
