Took my 74 Bonne, 72 GT & 67 Wagon out for a nice ride today each. I dunno, maybe 100 miles total?

The Wagon needed the ignition switch replaced (kept having to jumper across to start), so that was swapped followed by the obligatory test drive. Fixed!

The GT needed the rear brakes checked (maybe later this weekend), but ya' gotta drive it to listen, "are they really squeaking, or can I just stand on the throttle a little more to drown out that sound?"

Meanwhile, Bonne went to my shop and up on stands so I can work on the Speedo drive gear in the tail housing which has popped loose. I'll have her back on the road again next week.

Of course I forgot the action shots, but ya' know, just another day in Pontiac paradise!

This car has given me so much trouble lately (thread), it was nice to mess around with a few small projects this afternoon.

First project was installing a new Delco dimmer switch and splicing in a new wiring harness to get rid of the death trap I previously installed. We took it to my son's school for open auto shop night last week and on the way home in the dark the dash lights went out. We started smelling a plasticy electrical smell when we were close to home which made me panic a bit. Turns out a shadetree repair I did on the dimmer switch about 30 years ago was the culprit and had melted the back side of the plastic grommet. I was shocked when I saw how I had previously repaired it - electrical tape wrapped around wire crimped connectors. I'm surprised it lasted so long without issue.

Second project was a new set of Pertronix 7mm factory appearance plug wires in a last ditch effort to solve the problem with getting a reliable timing strobe signal (thread) with a Pertronix module. I thought I had this solved, but it was evident when I dropped the engine in a few weeks ago. An interim band aid was to put the induction clamp on #6 with the Taylor wires which steadied things out for some reason, but the new wires appear to have solved it for good on the #1 cylinder. I don't love the 90 degree boots vs. 45 degree, but they'll work. It also gave me the opportunity to route the wires at the distributor to better prevent arcing.

Third project was fixing a few little exhaust leaks at the head tube/x-pipe joint. Tightening the band clamps mostly solved the leaks, but I'm still feeling a little bit get through on one joint.

Hoping to it get out for a little drive tomorrow since it's not leaking oil, coolant, or (much) exhaust, it shouldn't catch fire via shoddy electrical work, and I know the timing is set correctly.

Drove it! Then cleaned it.
First time in nearly 4 months. I pulled it out of the garage just to clean it up and just kept going.

I installed a digital tach in the GTO a week or two ago. Well, it worked, but was reading about double the actual RPM. So after talking to Glowshifts tech guy, they recommend a “filter” when using the tach with a breaker points ignition. OK, that came over the weekend so I installed it tonight. STILL reading double the RPM.
The funky thing is there is a switch on the back of the tach that you have to set at 4,6,or 8 cylinder, depending on your vehicle. That switch has no affect of the tach reading! I think that switch is bad IMO.
So shot an email off to Glowshift to get this thing replaced.

Drove my RAIV bird w the RAV pro stock dual quad engine w my son today . Normally he’s kind of unimpressed as he grew up around all this high HP (around 1000) - stuff but he was really excited after that ride, even though I didn’t really jump on it much . It’s got headers and 4 inch stainless flow masters on it and you really feel the compression in your chest . It’s a beast of an engine
Even though it only makes 650 ish hp at 6500 probably make more higher but that as high as it’s been dyno’d since it’s kinda rare .

Made me happy the kid enjoyed the ole Pontiac so much.

ID:	621284Drug it home from Oregon on Wednesday and have been working on it ever since. It had been sitting in a garage for 41 years. But it WAS driven 15 years ago, and the engine turns and the brakes came back to life, so there's hope. It's a solid but faded original paint red on red '66 convertible with a 4 speed and console. Has 114k miles on it. I'm the second owner.

It’s amazing how small our Pontiacs(especially birds) look today isn’t it. I was w my buddy in his 70 bird one day and we parked in a filled parking lot and it looked like a compact car . I guess I never park my 69 like that so I don’t notice normally .

Spent the day doing a clean up and Krylon rebuild on the 'adjustable pedals' for my 74 Bonneville. Hoping to get them installed this week. It will keep my knees out of the dashboard when my 5'2" wife is driving.

Oh, and took the 72 GT for a cruise...

On one hand I hear what you’re saying with respect to FBs, especially surrounded in a sea of pick up trucks and large SUVs, but on the other hand I was standing by my friends 66 GTO ‘vert and couldn’t get over how long and wide it appeared. These cars capture the imagination!

It's nuts. Even compact modern cars are big. The ones I was parked next to were just regular everyday vehicles, and the TA looked like a clown car lol

My '67 GTO is the longest car I have.Even a bit longer than my Tahoe.
