OPGI rallye II 17" wheel
Not sure if im not to good with the search option but couldnt find any info on them here..
Any one runing them? Any one knows about them? Other option for 17" rallye II wheels? From the pics I like the OPGI more than Year One... Any help is appreciated! |

As far as I can tell on their site, their 17" wheel IS the Year One wheel which is manufactured by US Wheel.

In the pics I saw, OPGI looked like black centers (high contrast), and YO looked gray center (or at least low contrast) I think BS was different too..
Maybe it was just me. . Any one running them? Any comments to share? |

I read your post about paiting... good thing I did cause it didnt seem to be that complicated.. I might have fallen on the same tramp.
I think I will check it back with more time later.. But in a few lines... a) Yours a 68, mine a 69, they should be exactly same setup right? b) You got the staggered set IIRC, are you happy with that option? c) Can you comment on your tires sizing... will you choose a different size if doing it again? any rubbing? issues? Thaks for helping! |

It's just time really consuming to mask and prep, that's all. I wanted more contrast and went conservative on the charcoal, so the payoff wasn't there. I also had a snafu with the VHT wheel paint where I tried to clear it too late and it wrinkled. That was a pretty big setback and frustrating on a brand new set of wheels I was iffy about painting in the first place.
For your other questions: a) Correct and correct. Same dimensions and setup. I can't think of anything unique about my car that would make it special. '69 disc setup in the front, 80's aluminum drums in the rear. Stock a-arms and spindles. Fatter sway bar up front (which I don't think the tires are rubbing on?). b) I love the staggered look! I actually wish it was a bit more staggered, but really happy with it. c) IMO the tires are the perfect size, thanks to the advice given on here!. I don't think I could have gone any bigger on the front as the driver's side *almost* rubs on the front edge of the tire on tight turns. The passenger side has plenty of clearance though, so something's funky with panel alignment or the way things are squared on the frame. I could have easily fit a 275 on the rear, but I'm good with the 255s. If I went wider and with a 2" drop on the rear, I think it would have rubbed on the inner fender lip. 2" with the 255s would probably be tight over bumps. Plenty of clearance right now.

Thats a REALY nice looking 68.., love the hideways mine does not have them.
Do you think you might fir more sidewall on the tires.. kind of love to have more meat on the side... and that red line is really growing on me. Do you think the 275/50 would have fitted in the rear? I used to have a 285/45 on the rear of my camaro.. everyone said it was not possible but it did and looked amazing.. you can really tell the difference between the 275 and the 285... I just imagine how the 275 might differ from the 255... Any rear pics? Again.. really nice car, thats a good paint job there. |

Anyone tried with the 17x9 on the 4 corners?
YO says it fit with 275/45... Have your tried your rears upfront? It if wont fit, I think they wont be selling them as a kit... any toughts? |

Ken- your green 68 looks amazing. Did you go with the Diamondback tires (I forget from the other thread).
Patox- I had 275’s on the front of my 68 LeMans and the rubbed terribly and ruined $600 in tires. I believe these were on 17x9 Hurst wheels. I think I ended up sending the wheels back and getting 17x8’s for the front with 255’s? I just know I was pissed at myself for the tires. They rubbed at the bottom of the front fenders. Ironically I have 275’s on the front of my 70 with 17x9 honeycombs with no issues. If you look at side views you can see how much further in the 68-69 fender comes in at the bottom vs a 70-72 |

I don't think I have any pics from the rear with the 17s handy, but I can take some. What would you like to see?
I wanted a little more sidewall up front, I'm good with the rears. I was somewhat limited by tire selection because I wanted redlines. I tried to stay about the same height as the stock setup as to not mess up the speedo calibration too much. I haven't tried the 17x9s up front. Gastiresandoil runs 17x9s all the way around on his '68 with 255 in front and 275 in the rear but I'm not sure what the backspacing is on his wheels. I tried his 275s on the rear of my car and they fit fine. They're about 1/2" shorter than what I have on there now. Quote:

Hey gastire.. your running 17x9 4.5.. the YO rally available on 17x9 are 5.25 BS IIRC..
Do you think they can make it? A 255 for the front.. do you think you can run 50 or 55 profile? |

The 255 tires I have only have an aspect ratio of 40, yeah pretty small sidewall. You maybe able to get away with a 45 ratio, but bigger than that you'll have to start test fitting. If you get the 5.25" backspace rims, you maybe able to get taller tires even though that inner fender well in the front will be your limiting factor.

If I feel ambitious, I'll put a 17x9 on the front this weekend to show how they don't fit. Maybe I'll be surprised.

255/50 on the front...nope.
Pushed past the fender lip with a thunk on the way in turning left. It would have been bad news if I turned the wheel right. I had to carefully extricate the wheel and tire. This is the side that has room to spare with the 245s on 17x8s.

First of all... you have been such a good sport trying...
So the 17x9 5.25 BS and 255/50 is a clear no go on pre 70 cars. The 245/45 on the 17x8 45 BS is a tight fit for you... 245/50, you think it might make it?? Again.. thanks for taking the time! |
