Pontiac began using the silver blue metallic starting in 1966. I used Dupli-Color DE1616 on my car.

The Duplicolor DE1616 I've used in the past have all been too silver with too little blue. I have heard they changed the formulation for this and the DE1610 '59-'65 engine color.
I have had zero problems with Ames and Inline Tube versions of both colors. Problem is, they're double the cost of Duplicolor.

Here's a '66 I restored that has, what I believe, to be the correct color.

That Duplicolor silver/blue conducts electricity really well.
Ask me how I know... |

Could be the picture but the DE 1616 color in post #2 is less silver-ish than the the factory color in post #4.

I have always used Bill Hirsch. I brush instead of spray, one quart will do an engine. does not look as 'blue' as yours but could be lighting. I like it regardless.

I get it right off the shelf at Napa and it matches, looks, perfect to me and everyone else that sees it.

Inline Tube has a special blend they had made up. They sell it to Butler and Ames and others it seems to be the most correct according to Butler Performance. I just used it on this engine. I have been unable to find the Dupli color paint in this color anywhere.

good choice! metallic blue is the only color that should be on a pontiac engine. Last edited by JUDGE3; 12-20-2023 at 10:54 AM. |

You bring up a good point. I bought a case of 6 Dupli-Color DE1616 cans from Amazon in May of last year for $42.35. Looking for them now, I can't find anything, anywhere. Not available on Amazon, eBay, or at O'Reilly... Wonder what's going on.

Yeah Will, that was then this is now and no one seems to have it. I think Dupli Color stopped making it but at least you can get the stuff that Inline Tube has.

As was mentioned, according to Butler, the Inline Tube color is what they think is best, and the Duplicolor is their second choice.
I went with the Bill Hirsch initially and I did not like it at all. The Duplicolor DE1616 looks much, much better to me. I got it from Summit a few weeks ago but it's not available now. Hirsch: DE1616:

Do you have a local Napa? Ours carries that Pontiac duplicolor on the shelf.

Just called my local Napa - 3 cans of 1616 on the shelf but none available for order. Interesting thing is the system defaults to the 1610 sky blue

DC 1616 Hands Down.
Been using it on all my OHC builds for years and it lays out really nicely and holds up well.
Even when I spray parts separately and sometimes from different lots it always matches up really well. I still have some PK 227 and it always looked too green to me.

I have one can of Valspar Plasti-Coat in the silver blue high temp. Can says OER and cap color is blue I wanted for my 72. One spray and I knew what the cap color looked like wasn't what came out. I took the second can back to the parts house and got a different brand that was what I needed. So, this can I would sell cheap.
