Awesome Engines
I've done a couple of searches here for an engine builder called Awesome Engines in Delaware. They have a website that offers a couple of crate engine options. Here's the link:
http://awesomeengines.biz/pontiac-40...crate-engines/ Has anyone here had any dealings or motors built for them? Good quality or experiences? Their prices seem too good for what they do. Thanks guys and gals! |

I don't know anything about those guys and they could be the best engine builders on the planet. But, I've heard a lot of horror stories. If you want a Pontiac engine for 5k, consider these guys:
http://www.lenwilliamsautomachine.co...ong_Block.html Very good reputation in the Pontiac community. I have not used their services but they have been around for a long time and I've heard a lot of good things about them. |

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Len Williams too. Just wanted some responses on this company. Maybe their website is dated and not kept up?

I've heard several other engine builders say similar things.
At the very least, some have said that price would not leave much profit. I've asked questions of some of Len Williams' customers. The common thread seems to be that they are well satisfied with the product. But they all said he's a little slow. But, considering the long waiting line at some of the big name Pontiac engine builders, I don't think a few months wait is out of line. Some have said that they think his prices are so low because he does a lot, if not most of the work himself. I assume that most of the big name guys have more overhead, therefore must charge more to keep the doors open. I've noticed that his prices have gone up a bit, in the last year or so. But still the cheapest prices I'm aware of from any Pontiac engine builder with a good rep. I'm guessing that he probably builds a good engine, but does not go into all the very meticulous details that Paul Carter has described here. From what I've seen, most of the big name Pontiac engine builders, charge very near $10k, for a decent complete longblock, and some well over that. There are lots of Pontiac guys that simply can't spend $10k on the engine. That's a fact. For a while, Paul Sandoval had a "budget" 400 block stroker shortblock for under $4k. Now it's $5k, plus shipping. http://www.sandovalperformance.com/engines According to Len's website, his 400 block stroker shortblock is $3795. And I assume you could get a forged crank upgrade for an extra $400 or so. So, it appears that most could buy the forged crank version for about $4500 shipped. http://lenwilliamsautomachine.com/455_Short_Block.html The next best deal I'm aware of is the ready-to-assemble stroker shortblock kits from Butler. Forged cranks are $450 extra. So, if you can assemble it yourself, or have somebody who can help you, or do it for you, for a reasonable price, this might be a good deal for some. https://butlerperformance.com/i-2445...tegory:1234783 Many of the Pontiac engine builders don't publish online prices. For example: I don't know exactly what a forged crank stroker shortblock would cost from KRE, DCI, Paul Knippen, or Paul Spotts. I think Cliff has posted that he's quit building engines, because there's just not enuff profit in it, for the labor required. http://www.krepower.com/Pontiac%20Street%20Engines.htm http://www.dcimotorsports.com/servic...ngine-builder/ https://www.facebook.com/PaulKnippensMuscleMotors/ Paul Spotts does show some base prices on his site. Don't know how current they are. The base price listed for his 505 shortblock hasn't changed now in several years. http://www.spottsperformance.com/rebuild.htm http://www.spottsperformance.com/IA2%20engine%20block2 If anybody would like to post any current engine prices they know, it might be helpful to some here. There's an Ebay builder with a 100% positive rating. He shows a 400 build, a 455 build & some ready-to-bolt-on 6x-8 heads. Don't know anything about him.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rebuilt-400...MAAOSwAa5ahzHr https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rebuilt-455...gAAOSwf5Ba9HXq https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pair-400-45...4AAOSwlThcBtzw http://dennysautomachineinc.squarespace.com/ Then there's Blue Monkey. Anybody know anything about them ? Hey, I'm not promoting these guys, just posting info for Pontiac engines under $10k. https://www.ebay.com/itm/455-Pontiac...n-C:rk:12:pf:0 http://bluemonkeyperformance.com/ Just happen to think of Nitemare. He is one of the high dollar builders who does post prices. http://nitemareperformance.com/prices%20engines.html Last edited by ponyakr; 01-25-2019 at 11:33 PM. |

Prices too-good, and a company name that sounds like an 8th grader came up with it - those are two big red flags that I've seen many times, leading to unhappy customers.
About 5 years ago I helped a guy out with his project, but I was limited on time to assist. We ended up getting a short block from Len Williams, a set of heads from Dave Bischopp @ SD Performance, then I had a cam custom ground and assembled it all. The owner contacted me a few weeks ago, the motor is still running great and he has been very happy with it.

Spotts up the road from you knows every Pontiac engine detail, and Spotts wiil ger the machine work done by a fine shop. You can see his builds on Youtube. Paul will likely run-in the engine so you know for sure that is is all good.

How is he able to offer Edelbrock heads for $1275? I'm assuming he buys them bare, and assembles them in house? Even still, I couldn't build get them that cheap.
