Default Rare view from the backseat

Took a trip to a local cars and coffee this morning with my 16 y/o son at the wheel and brother in law in the passenger seat. It's not the first time he's driven it, but I think it's the first time I've ever ridden in the back seat! It's such a trip to have him at the wheel of the same car I drove at his age. I also consider it a milestone that enough of the kinks and anomalies are resolved so that both of them could drive it without special instructions.

He needs a little more practice with the clutch in the T/A, but I'm looking forward to the day when we can drive both cars to meets

Cool! Start em young!
I have a 15 year old who just got his learners permit. Has yet to drive the GTO as the original shifter is a little clunky.
My 3 older sons all learned to drive stick with my GTO. One son I even let take it to prom. Damn car came home with the MT ET streets showing the bias ply cords.

One thing I liked about the back seat is that I was actually enjoying the car instead of obsessively listening for sounds or watching the gauges. This was one of the longer trips I've had it on after the rear main seal debacle. The bonus feel good moment is that the rear main seal is still dry after the trip!

We've done a few parking lot sessions in the Comp. I had him drive it home the other day and he got a little flustered in traffic with the starts and stops. It's a pretty top shelf car to learn how to drive a stick! I learned in a worn out '74 Honda.

I like this pic of him learning to drive it because it captured his feeling when he finally figured out the clutch.

BTW, I've put just about 2,000 miles on it since I picked it up from you. Replaced the original tires, resealed the intake manifold, charged the a/c, repaired the headlight motors and it's been flawless. We took it to the Radwood show in San Francisco a couple months ago where it got some appreciation from the attendees. Everyone assumed it was my son's car! Not so fast...

Best car to learn/teach manual shift IMO... air-cooled VW.
