Default Atoll Blue Variations/Options

My tribute project is near the paint phase, and my original thoughts were to use OE Atoll Blue, or as close to it as possible. Now thinking about it, I could easily go to a variation, maybe something with more of an effect, and could use some ideas.

Anyone know of variations of Atoll Blue that might have slight more effect to it? Or have any other suggestions?

No one has any suggestions?

So the OE paint code is WA4027, which crosses to the following:

Ditzler/PPG - 2166

Dupont - 5124D / 5124L

Sherwin Williams - 3172

Anyone sprayed any of these? Any tips like which may have more of a black or blue shade? Level of flake?

There's a Fathom Blue Pearl that is available on Acura TLXs and Dodge Journeys. Guess I can go to the dealer lots and look at those.

What I did when I repainted my Goat back in 2005, was to look up the Sierra Yellow chip in the book and then open the fleet book to find something just a bit lighter and more energetic. I know Atoll is metallic though, so that might not work, but just an idea.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, spent time in some chip books, but no way can you get a good idea of what it's going to look like on the car, because the body contours change the 'effect' or look the way the light hits it.

Atoll Blue is metallic, and without direct light, it looks very dark. On the curves of fenders and quarters, with light hitting it, the metallic pops, something you just can't get from a flat chip in a book. I think the best way is to actually see it on a car, but that's not always possible.

There's a dark blue that came on second gen Caddy CTS-Vs too...you might look into that. It's called Opulent Blue.

Also, Patriot Blue, a Chrysler color for over 10 years is very close to Atoll as well. It's on all kinds of mopar cars and trucks.

Sweet, thanks, will check those! Think I'm going to do laps at some of the dealerships today, shop some colors...

I just got done painting my 72 lemans. I went with slate blue metallic bc/cc from the coating store online. I am very happy with the color and the paint. I did step up to there higher price clear. the color has a lot of metallic in it.

Wow I really like that, and it's look really good. Not sure it will work with judge strips, going to have to think about that. I already have the matching Atoll Blue stripe package, but guess I don't have to use it.

Original colors were Lucy/White interior and top. I'm going to keep the '71 interior, comfort weave, white, or that's the plan. No top is going back on though.

I did do a lap around the dealership lots over the weekend, and looked at a few OE colors. Glad I did. The Dodge, Ford, and Honda variations have too much purple in it for my liking. The Toyota 'Blue Crush Metallic' doesn't have any purple in it, and that seems to be the best choice for a newer OE color. Not sure if it's a little too much 'pop', I will probably go look at it again, but I have only until Thursday before I have to choose.

I like the Caddy Opulent Blue Metallic by the pics I've seen, but wasn't able to make it to the Caddy dealer, may try to do that some time this week. It might pop too much by the way the pics I've seen look, but would have to see it in person. I really would prefer not to have one that pops as a 'pastel' blue as much as that color does, but it could just be the pics.

Wish I could see an OE Atoll Blue example in person before I made a decision...

After biting my fingernails to the bone, I decided on the Caddy Opulent Blue, had to give the shop a selection so they can start cutting it in. I'll update my stagnant build thread here in a sec...

Another color I was looking at was the newer Chevy Blue Velvet Metallic, I like it, but it just didn't have quite as much 'pop' as I was looking for.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, and thank you 70455HOVert, appreciate you steering me in that direction!

My pleasure!

I have a 2005 CTS-V that was originally Stealth Gray but now needs a complete repaint due to a very interesting but well executed custom paint job that screams 2005 tribal tattoo.

Since it basically needs a full color change I've thought about updating it to a newer 2nd Gen CTS-V color like the Opulent Blue...I'll be anxious to see the pics!
