Default A/C Center Vent Question

Feeling somewhat less intelligent at the moment, but here goes...

I took the cylindrical center vent out of the A/C control panel, and now I cannot get the vent to stay in place when reassembled. The only step I remember taking to get the vent out is to remove the retaining clips on either side. Now with everything together, it seems these clips do not extend far enough to actually hold the vent in place. Is there something else that I have misplaced and/or forgotten about? See photo and video below.
