Default 69 Pontiac Firebird 400 paint ideas

Hey, as I get the final few items fixed on my 69 Firebird 400 dialed in and resolved, it's going to be time to put the car in the body shop for a new paint job.

Since it used to have a vinyl/landau top, it's got the trim piece still on the body where the top ended.

I've been going over lots of pictures online of 69 400's, and some look great, but the trim ring isn't part of their paint jobs.

So I'm looking for paint scheme ideas, hopefully some of you have seen a cool paint job (whether it incorporates the trim or not), with or without stripes for the hood ducts (non functional). If you can post some example pics, that'd be great.

Here's what I have currently, white body, red top, red interior.

I'm open to ideas, and a couple of pics online with palladium silver / black vinyl top are ok, but not outstanding.

The idea of a white body with black, blue or red stripes is another idea, but with the bright red interior I have to come up with something that works for the whole car.

So help me figure out how to make this car standout without being too outlandish, if you would please!

Thanks in advance!

Jim

That car looks GOOD as is! It'd tastefully standout in any crowd.

How about Crystal Turquoise, white painted top, with a parchment interior? It’s a GTO, but you get the idea

BTW, I love the color scheme posted...

If we didn't have this one already, that would be high on my list.

Looks great as is, Scum! I would drive and enjoy it. Looks ready to rock, why tie it up in paint jail?

It's a 30 footer paint job. In reality it's got some green primer leaking through on the passenger side (crappy prep before last paint), a couple of rust bubbles on the trunk, and there's a trunk leak somewhere, too. Those 3 months of torrential rain out in So Cal exposed some faults!

Basically just want to tidy the car up with no seal leaks, and uneven paint.

Trying to compliment the red interior with the new paint scheme. If I had a parchment interior that would be a good choice. But I have that bright red interior.

Sorry, thought you we’re doing a complete color change.
Here’s my next strange but cool (imo) scheme:

Atoll or Liberty Blue, White painted top, red interior.

White, remove the top trim, and do double red pin stripes. You can also go to redline tires.

If you want to stretch it a little, you can use a factory type 'sprint' stripe. (with or without pin stripes)

MAYBE use/paint emblems red too.

Add wheel opening trim.

Subtle will be more 'classy'. And be more 'accepted' by purists.

The few bucks it costs to have a place render several versions of what you might like is money well spent.

Fender/quarter accent stripes look good too.

All Black with a Red Sprint stripe would look great with that Red interior. Want a little more splash, add a red arrowhead stripe down the beak of the hood....

Yeah, I agree, black with red stripes work, and you can border it with a white, silver, or other color stripe too.

EDIT: Look at the last pic I posted of the fender stripe as an example.

wow, that's a beautiful car. always wanted a red interior car. if your after all original all white and leave as is. maybe some red center caps and lug nuts.

if not concerned about original, a trans am hood and rear spoiler but stay all white. no stripes. would look very cool. and that doesn't alter anything that can't be changed.

Since it's a numbers matching 400, I was going to leave the original sheet metal/hood/etc. But it came as a green paint/vinyl top originally, which just looks pretty tame.

The white paint with two stripes is nice, as is the silver, but I'm not going with the TA tail, though. The last time I checked that was on back order, although that may have changed.

A rear spoiler for a 69 camaro would look good also.

I put the camaro spoiler on my 1967 firebird and placed the Pontiac script on the spoiler itself. had never seen that done before and it looked great.

I think 67-69 firebirds needed the rear spoiler.

so was the red interior added then? not thinking a green car would have been available with red interior? awesome car either way!

Silver with a black vinyl top would be Bitchin, as would all black. Even white with black vinyl.
Post 13, middle car was once mine.
