Default Grieving

Had to let my boy Shadow go last Sunday 11/26/23. Cancer of the spleen. Twelve and a half years old Humane Society rescue. Brought him home nine months old. Saddest time of my life right now. Best, lovingest dog a person could ask for. Loved people, required everyone he met to pet him.
Praying to God we will be together again.
Miss you immensely Shadow.

Sorry for your loss. He looks like a great dog.

One of the greatest travesty’s in life is the most loving and loyal animal only lives for approximately 1/8 of our life span.

I lost my beautiful, majestic boy Brody the Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving... he was literally my best friend, and went everywhere with me. I rescued him when he was young, when someone dumped him in woods near our airport. I'm so sad... it's been almost 2 weeks and I cry every day. We're considering adopting a rescue puppy, but no dog or person will ever replace him.

Very sorry to hear. He sounds like a great friend.

I've had dogs all my life. Really can't imagine being without them. Everytime I lose one, it tears away a part of me. Really sucks. But, I love them and I do my best to make sure they love me. Sounds like you did the same.

So sorry for your loss. I had to put my 18+ yr old cat Mr Boots to rest 2 weeks ago. The wife named him. The morning after my wifes sudden passing he sat with me as I didnt know how was going to survive. He followed me like my shadow. I believe the creator has everything figured out in our mosaic of life and we will be amazed later.

Sorry to hear the loss. They become part of the family. I lost 3 in dogs in 3 years. The first was a 2 year old stray black lab that someone abandoned at my place as a puppy, had him for a year and a half. He got ran over and I was driving, I was and am still heart broken over him and it’s been 3 years, such a sweet dog. About nine months later our 18 year old Border collie rattweiler mix health failed suddenly, and then my 13 year beautiful black lab Great Dane passes shortly after, those last 2 spent a lot of time inside the house. All those dogs loved to ride with me in vehicles or equipment. The 2 year old was like my shadow, wanted by my side all the time. Every picture I took outside he was in the photo somewhere. The Lab Dane mix went with me almost almost everywhere, absolutely loved to ride in vehicles with me, would go with me all day.

Another stray moved in with us before I lost the Lab Dane mix, so very different, but still a fun companion, won’t ride with me at all, nice temperament though, I think he is an Alaskan Cattle dog.

All I can say is it takes time to get over them, they aren’t with us long enough, and those very special ones you never really do get over them after there gone. Wait a bit and find another man’s best friend that wants a home, they can be such blessings. Photo my wife shot of my young son and Lab Dane mix using him as a pillow. Framed picture that says “Home is where the dog is”!

Gotta be one of the hardest events to ever go through in life. So much unconditional Love from a persons best friend. So sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss, I hate it when that time comes. I have one now that is nearing this time and i'm not sure how I will handle it.
Take care.

Agree.... I believe it was designed that way so we can meet many more. We're all here temporarily.

We've now let two special pets go, Athena was 15 and had a good life - loved chicken McNuggets on the road, but arthritis caught up with her. Shadow though was not yet 12 when a blood disease took her in less than 24 hours. That one was a shock. We took Sadie with her to the vet when it happened so she would know that Shadow was "gone". We could only go a few weeks before adding another, "Kai Anne" to the family.

With each one, we've learned they all share many of the same poodle behavior characteristics, but they each have a unique personality. And have realized each one adds to the store of good times and memories you have with them.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Brought his ashes home today. It's a little bit of closure but still very difficult. Thanks again!

So very sorry Sir,

They are a big part of our families & give us unconditional love throughout their lives.

I honestly believe we will be reunited with them in the future. Over the last 4 years I lost all 4 of my furry kids (2 Dogs, 2 Cats) I had them for a very long time, so it was very difficult, but as mentioned above....It does get easier in time & after the grieving stage is over with, you will enjoy the memories.

God Bless
Bill
