As a long time GTO owner I wanted to voice my opinion on the 2004 GTO. I checked out a 2003 Mach I a few days ago and I can honestly say that this is the first new car in a very long that I would like to own. The 2004 GTO is pretty lame compared to the Ford. It's a good thing that Lutz decided not to market this car to traditional GTO enthusiasts because most of them won't buy it regardless of the potential of the V-8/RWD platform. I'm reading all the time in the Pontiac magazines how fortunate we are for Pontiac to be bring this car to market. I can't see it. I know they will never build another GTO like the one I own but Ford has come pretty close to building a new '69 Mach I and Mopar has the hemi back...I like it.

I value the excellence of the design and workmanship that has gone into the interior of the 2004 GTO. That by far outweighs any concerns on the so called plain exterior.

I didn't say I had a mustang, just that they are a better looking car than the '04 GTO. I don't give a fig about how plush and comfortable the interior is or what kind of sound system it has. Heck, my idea of a true musclecar is still a Road Runner with rubber mats and push out windows so if you guys are too young to remember that then I can understand. It just doesn't appeal to a lot of us AARP members and Lutz knew that we weren't the market for this car anyway. I just hate that they gave this car the GTO nameplate. The Monte Carlo SS body with Pontiac grille, retro taillamps, hood scoops, and RWD would be better suited to the name. Of course, that car wouldn't appeal to the BMW crowd. Times have changed for sure.

Randy, mate, this is 2003 and 99% of the buying public DO care about that sort of stuff. The definition of a muscle car has changed not just due to customer comfort requirements, but also due to changing attitudes to safety and the environment. Peoples values have changed and the muscle car has had to change with them in order to survive. Like it or not, the closest thing to the classic muscle cars we know and love is not coming from Detroit these days, but is coming out of Stuttgart and Munich. It is these people that the GTO is marketed toward. And with the GTO being as quick if not quicker than them, about 20k cheaper too, they will sell quickly.

Our local dealership is getting one soon. They asked a friend of mine if they could put his '68 GTO on the showroom to help bring attention to the new car. That says it all to me. I don't give a damn what is coming out of Germany and I need that 35K in my retirement account. Good thing I still have my old GTO and a bunch of parts. Enough of this...

The truth is, The 04 GTO will be hard pressed to better a Mach 1, and can't touch a Cobra... (Equal drivers)

That is Stock Vs Stock. The LS1 is a great motor and with some tuning the GTO will run with both.

And 2004__GTO, you can pick any car apart. Vette owners have cried for years, some convertible owners cry about too much wind. WTF are they thinking?

It's like someone buying a one ton truck expecting it to drive like the Lincoln they traded in on it... Some people...

Not sure who is arguing your statement but it is a fact BUT you won't be able to say that in a year (or so)...

Humbler, I really hope you're right! I think it will need the LS6 to do it though.

As it sits right now, the Mach 1 runs with the Best stock LS1 WS6 TA and to take the cobra the LS1 needs mods...

We had a meeting with Scott Settlemire last month in Tampa, and there are good things in the works at GM.

Sat night, in a local club, a stock 03 Cobra put 6 or 7 cars on a 02 SS with a lid and cat back... Twice... The Cobra owner said "I can't believe I wasted my gas running him"

It's hard being a gto lover isn't it.. True enough they "pontiac" have certaintly touched people with such a branded name.

I suppose it's better than nothing ever being released?

or is it?
hard pressed to drive one...
but on the other hand... if I could drive two gto's of two different decades I suppose my life wouldn't be too bad?
