Help Guys I'm at a standstill! How do you remove the black shifter knob so you can get console out of car. I have tried unscrewing the knob but this still will not remove it. I can get the indicator plate (cover) to slide toward the back a bit, does that mean anything? I need to wrap this up this weekend so any help is much needed. Thanks, JR

JR,
I'm pretty sure that bad boy unscrews counter-clockwise. Every shifter knob I've run into does.

On Pontiacs with the button in the middle, it may require the removal of a little c clip.

I'm not sure about the '67 model, but like ccass said, you should pop out the button in the top of the knob using a flat-bladed screwdriver. After it's popped out, you will be able to remove the snap-ring that retains the shifter knob.

Thanks Guys. Its always the little things that trip me up. The little chrome button on top unscrews also. ( hard to believe that I am a 9-level aircraft mechanic in our USAF) After that delay things have gone smooth, some rust in floorpans but it was an easy fix. Thanks for the help, I'll be back!
