I have a 69 GP and it’s time to upgrade to a 455. I’m looking for a knowledgeable and reputable Pontiac engine builder in the Illinois/Wisconsin area. Anyone have any recommendations?

I don't know how far north you want to look, but I just fired up a 455 that Baril Engine in Green Bay did for me. Absolutely great. I followed Jim Hand's book and had Baril do everything they needed to get to 10.3:1 compression and around 500 hp. I did thrust them and pretty much gave them an open check book, but I wanted it done right.
The only thing I ran into was the Pontiac blue paint burning off. I think it was the fact I had Baril use a rattle-can paint, which he applied over a hi-temp primer. He is standing behind it and the paint supplier is sending a free can of brush-on to fix the problem... Just a heads up. If you want to talk with them, ask for Larry at 1-800-236-8212. He's a good guy and a great shop, but he's very busy right now and I don't know how long it would take to do your build. I hope this helps and good luck in your search. Ron :drive: |

:sorry: Sorry to hi-jack this post, but yes...INJUNTOM. The problem is the motor had less than an hour of breakin running time and the paint came off ...bigtime.
I talked with Bill Hirsch and he sent me quart of paint-on Pontiac blue. He seems to be a great guy. I would highly recommend his products...he definately stands behind them. He said the paint-on holds up much better. I am trying to get 500 miles on the rebuild than will do a touch up. Sorry again Logan Cade for the intrusion! Ron |
