Sounds like a tire size/rim offset issue. You would think this would have been found very early on in testing-production.
I do know tires of the same size from different manufactures can have different outside diameters. Another cause could be different speed ratings affecting high speed dimensions.

Strut rub - Old news. I guess enough people complained that somebody figured out that they should fix it. Simple front end alignment seems to be the fix for the cars that have the problem.

A front end alignment will fix it, but I'm sure there are a lot of owners who aren't aware there may be a problem. To many people a car (even a GTO) is just an appliance, and they don't go over everything with a fine-toothed comb as you or I might. It's good this is finally getting attention. Hopefully GM will issue a recall or notice to all owners so it won't go overlooked any longer.
