Default Ames Firm Ride Rear Springs

Has anyone used the Firm Ride Rear Springs from Ames Perf? If so, do they raise the rear ride height any? How firm is firm?

The springs on my '69 LeMans are original, and they have seen better days. I'm looking for a bit of a firmer ride, plus a little less sag in the butt.

I tried a set many years ago, I ended up removing them since they made the car sit too high. There was no noticeable change in ride characteristics between them and the regular springs. I suspect they are just cargo coils designed originally for towing and encyclopedia salesmen.

How much higher was it sitting? I'm looking for a little lift from my saggy stockers.

I don't remember exactly but it was at least 1" higher than stock. i.e. if new stock springs gave you 8.5-9.0" (bottom of rocker molding to the ground) these were 10+" and typical tired stock springs are 7.5" or lower.

The factory R&H springs added about 15% spring rate but they were shorter so the ride height was unaffected. If you looked at NOS springs in a box the R&H version are about 1.5 to 2" lower than the regular ride springs.

I put a set of Moog Cargo Coils I got off a junk '67 Lemans HT on a '67 Lemans convertible and the ride height was exactly stock and it was very firm.

android 211 how do you like the springs? Can you post a few pics of your car at different angles?
Thanks!

Its not mine; it was a car I helped a friend with. I robbed my stash to get it on the road. He painted it at home. (ex bodyman). 45,000 mile Kansas car sat from 1979 to 2004. I know what kind of springs they are because the tag was still on them. The fronts were "Moog Heavy Duty"

Air shocks will firm up the ride and raise the rear too. Far easier than changing out the rear springs. But that's just my . I'm running airbags and airshocks on the rear of my 66. I love the ride and the way it handles with the 1 1/4" front swaybar added.

Gary, I've considered air shocks, but as I understand it, they take the pressure off the spring mounts, which are reinforced and built to take such a load, and put it on the shock mounts, which are not built to take the load. It can lead to breaking the shock mounts.

Anyone with more input?

Moog Cargo Coils X2 ...settled down about an inch after awhile, but sit's just right as far as i'm concerned. Fairly soft ride, but will stand some weight without squatting too much.

Thumbs up Ames firm ride springs

I bought a set approximately 2 years ago for my saggy rear ended GTO. It brought the butt end up approx 1/2 inch above the rear tire, improved the ride and handling measureably and the car looked great. I would highly recommend the addition of a set of these springs.
