o2 sensor bung
I want to install a sensor bung in my header collector while I have it off. The bung I bought is stainless. Can I braze it with brass rod? Or should I mig it, or should I pay to have it done by somebody that knows how to do it?
I suck at brazing, and mig welding but I would like to do it myself. Will brass rod stick to stainless? |

My understanding is that you need to use a tri mix gas and MIG stainless, but I am far from being a welder.
They make header collectors with bungs already in them. That might be an option. If you can, drive it up somewhere and have someone else do it. .

I've welded stainless to mild steel before just using 75-25 mix, would also recommend threading a spark plug or old o2 in the bung before welding to protect the threads.

I MIGed a stainless O2 bung on my header collector with std gas and wire. And it's fine. BB70's advice is right on - protect those threads. Also clock the bung as specified which is pointed up mostly so it stays clean but tilted off to side for access. i finished my weld with hi temp silver caliper paint and it's still there.

Yep I had to get a thread chaser to a few I had welded in recently.
