Default Muffler Recommendation

I am looking for a throaty deep sounding mufflers. I am running 2 1/2" exhaust. With Tribal Tube headers. I have run the Pypes race pros. And the flow master 2 chamber. But they just don't seem to compare to what is on my vette. Unfortunately it's been so long I don't remember what I put on there. Thanks Tom

I hate my Race Pros on my Cutlass. Not bad at idle, but way too raspy (glass-pack sounding) with some throttle. I'm replacing the Flowmasters and everything behind my Tribal Tubes tomorrow - using Borla ProXS mufflers. I'll comment on their sound when I get the car back.

I was looking at the borlas but was unsure about how they sound. That's what I don't care for about the flow masters I have. That they have a tin can sound to them

Yep. The Cutlass is about 400hp at the wheels with the Race Pros. The Firebird is 270hp at the wheels, with the Flowmasters. At idle, the Firebird is noticeably louder than the Cutlass! The Cutlass is louder when under load, though.

I had Flowmasters on the Cutlass, with a milder engine - picked up significant power once I replaced the Flows with the RP's. But I dislike the sound of the RP's even more than the Flows. I did a LOT of research before buying the ProXS's, I'll know in a few days whether or not I screwed up :-)

Maybe hooker aerochambers or dynamax ultra flos? Every muffler sounds different with every build...

I love the Ultraflows on my 78. Very quiet with the X crossover. I HATED my 2 chamber Flowmasters had a terrible resonance and loud.

I have Texas TA mufflers on my '70 and both of my '78's. Love the sound and another set will be going on my'73. To me, Texas TA mufflers are the only way to fly.

Will do. I dropped the car off a couple hours ago. Probably be a few days before I get it back (he is actually retired, but still does jobs for people he likes, as he has time).

I'm hating the sound of my Jeg's mufflers that they throw in with their mandrel bent exhaust system. I've had it and I just ordered a set of the Dynomax 17749 based on the Jim Hand article here-
