Hoods
What is the difference between a standard 66Gto hood and a 66Gto ramair hood?

A hacked up support brace at the front of the scoop section and an open insert.
I say hacked up as some of the oe cars looked like they were cut with a can opener.

LOL, yeah they definitely didn't look pretty, but these were just street pounding cars not Cadillacs. Fact is that when I see a neatly cut one, I know it was recently done, not one from back in the day.

So, If I want to buy the Ram Air (open) scoop from Ames, I will need to use the diagram in the post to remove the shaded area metal? I have read that this was a dealer installed option back in 66. Did any come from the factory like that?

If you're planning on buying an open scoop (repo) and use it on an original hood you will have issues for the fit to the hood. And visa versa with a original scoop to a repo hood. As said it the Ames catalog use repos of each together. And mind you I'm only going by what the catalog says.
As you know, or will find out, reproduction parts more than likely don't have the quality of the original factory parts.
