Keith, I love the tow bar brackets.
Another subtle example of the saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words".
So many captions could be put with that picture, very cool.

Had a big Father's Day weekend these last couple days.

Saturday was the Widetrackers Chapter "Dustoff" (...which I forgot about ).

Joseph and I wiped off the Grand Prix and took it over to the 4H fairground. Won a "second place" for the vintage GP class, which is unusual since I typically either don't participate or I get beat by Jim Larson's '63 GP.

Also saw a couple of these for sale in John Sawruk's toy bin:

Sunday was Father's day (...which I didn't realize), so that means the "Eyes on Design" concours event at the Edsel Ford estate (...which I forgot about).

JMT455 was good enough to start a thread so I tagged along and stuck my pictures over there:

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=755163

I didn't take a car, but did get a kick of out this:

Spectators and participants get this nice, glossy print program commemorating the event.

I was flipping through (..and flipping through...) and I made it all the way to the very last page before I saw this familiar nondescript black '65 GTO...

This photo is from the 2010 event.

Whew! That was close! Almost made it the whole day before running across my GTO in print somewhere...

(lol)

Hey Keith, you mentioned coincidences a few posts back. Here is another for you. I bought my 66 GTO Convertible at Classic Auto Showplace in May of 1988, 26 years ago. Classic was on 14 mile in Troy at that time. That weekend I took the car to the Widetracker's Spring Dustoff. Back then it was held at the Pontiac Administration Building in Pontiac. This was the first show I took this GTO to. Looking at the picture of your 2014 26th Annual Spring Dust Off trophy, I realized that the one I attended in May of 1988 was 26 years ago. It must have been the FIRST annual Spring Dustoff and I had never realized that! I just always assumed it had been an ongoing yearly show at the time.

I can't find any of my pictures from the 1988 Dustoff but attached are a few from probably 89 or 90. We gathered the Woodward GTO Tiger cars for a club picture shoot at the back of the Administration Building Parking lot.

First pic starts with the late Bill Sherman's 64 Royal Bobcat GTO (from the famous Car and Driver Magazine GTO vs GTO article and the first Royal Bobcat "GTO" campaigned by the Dealership back in 1963/64). It was being match raced at the time of this picture by club member Milt Schornack. My GTO is the Convertible with the top down, about the 5th or 6th car over from the Royal Bobcat.

Second pic is a rear view if the same lineup of cars and it shows the Spring Dustoff show field in the background in front of the Pontiac Administration Building.

Thanks for sharing the pic of the Dust Off Trophy, it brought back a lot of memories. By the way, I am still driving that GTO. Jim

A couple updates as we move into the autumn here in Michigan:

a) Something kind of silly - but I won this nice gift through the Widetrackers.

They had a little "Name the GP grilles" quiz in one of the newsletters. The first person to respond with the correct answers would win a nice piece of Pontiac memorabilia.

Guess who won?

(lol).

Anyway - turns out it WAS a nice piece of memorabilia.

I was quite pleased and it fits in with my garage decor perfectly.

b) It's been a tough year for car activities just due to the amount of vacation travel and social events. But I did manage to sneak in a race weekend with the Chevlle (one so far) plus this local car show with the GTO.

This was the 20th annual Congregational Church show, which is within walking distance from my house. I usually attend because Eric White and his brother Marc are there, plus it's a good one for the GTO since it's so close.

Weather was threatening all day but we managed to get the event in before the rains came.

Jim - thanks for the post.

One comment about Classis Auto Showplace: they are still around, albeit very "mobile". They've probably moved a couple times since you saw them last, most recently (almost) into an old Circuit City building next to the Oakland Mall. That's where we did the photo shoot on my Chevelle for PHR and Super Chevy magazine.

Turns out that building was scheduled for demolition and is now totally leveled. So - Classic Auto Showplace has moved again, this time into a little shop over on Stephenson (or somewhere around there).

There is a move afoot to tear buildings down around here that I cannot explain but they are dropping like flies.

WAG: Quite often due to taxes appraisals on "improvements" on the land value, hence the building demos...
cheaper to insure and maintain the slabs and dirt and less risk of exposure to liability of vacant structures.

Agree - plus maybe the ability to recycle some of the more valuable materials (copper, steel).

Many of these buildings sat vacant for 40 or 50 years.

Hey Keith,
Thanks for the update. Yes, I have been to most of the various Classic Auto Showplace locations over the years as we come to town to visit family and friends and of course the Dream Cruise when we can. Dave Clack, the owner is an old buddy of mine. I didn't know they moved again since it has been a couple years since the last time we stopped there.

Keep posting the great pics and info! Jim

Hi Keith,
Yes, great story and pictures. You may already know this but the Turbo-Sonic car next to your old GTO shown pictured at the fairgrounds was restored in Canada and is shown on youtube. I will find the link if you are interested.

Just a reminder....Tenney, along with Jim Wangers, Scott Tiemann and Jim Mattison and the Bobcat GTO will all be joining us in a few weeks at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, November 22-23.

Hope to see lots of you there. It is going to be an awesome year for Pontiac's at MCACN!
