Default AGR Steering Box Quetion

Anyone running a AGR steering box in their car? I'm thinking of running one of these:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ag...c/model/lemans

I was also wondering if I could retain my original PS pump.

Any input/help would be greatly appreciated
-John

Ever consider the el-cheapo Jeep Grand Cherokee box swap? It's a 12.7 steering with the correct stops and its bolt in for under $100 bucks. Ive got it on my 67' GTO and its awesome.

My experience too, the first one was over-assisting on the clone, right at the top, car was all over the road. Then it started to leak out the top plate when I steered right.

The second one is on there now, doesn't leak, but still has an uncomfortable feel at the top, wanders some.

I will probably send the one to a rebuilder, there's several out there that do good work. I suggest that over pulling a boneyard box, can get any ratio you want and no modifications needed.

I have an AGR in the driver, got it years ago, never had a problem with it. Go figure.

I bought an AGR pump and they changed my torsion bar in my box after I had Lee do the 12:1 gears. The steering was too light for my taste.

You may be money ahead to just send your factory box out. At least you know it will be correct for your car and also have the correct stops too. I know both Lee and AGR can do those rebuilds and be sure to specify the torsion bar you want.

hi, i went thru hell with agr.....3 steering boxes....1 box locked up, 2nd box almost melted it got that hot the paint on my pump rubbed off, the oil passage little brass insert inside box was blocked and needed to be replaced, 3rd box would not give me full lock on left turns, agr kept trying to put blame on me and my install but my mechanic took a video of the install and the box hooked up being tested we proved the boxes were faulty, you have to be careful stops in the A body box were different to stops for the later B body cars , ames told me themselves that there re-builder said the boxes look identical box stops inside are different, i made it very clear to agr i want full lock either side but they still got it wrong, also had trouble with rock auto boxes, in the end my mechanic changed stop in box to give full lock, and also install a new brass insert into the box to allow fluid to pass thru....bottom line if you buying a box dont use agr or rock auto, i hear lee enginering are good but never used them...i had almost 5 months of hell with boxes with these guys a lot more trouble than i can mention here, be carefull, .good luck,

Default On the AGR power steering box & pump.

I ran a setup in my 70 LeMans. It leaked like a BP oil derrick. Decided to go back to a stock setup with the 3 turn to turn ratio (NAPA has them, but you will need a core). Same with the power steering.

Grand Cherokee box is the way to go. All you need are inserts for the Cherokee box so you can use your stock lines and a new rag joint. One of the best bangs for the buck I've done.

I just picked up a Jeep Grand Cherokee box from Pick-n-Pull for $42, $36 plus $6 core charge. The hose adapter kit from Lee is $20. Better hurry Mr. Lee told me he is retiring and trying to sell the business.

Default Lee's

I did this conversion on my 70 lemans, was great, had to go manual steering now with the turbocharger. Still saving that set up, you never know.

For my 69 GTO, I bought a faster ratio (2.5) box from Year One and it's been great.

Which one? The one with IROC internals, QF97? Or one of the AGR boxes?

Just a modified stock ps box for GTOs, could have been IROC, but it definitely wasn't AGR.

Yup. get yourself one of these. I put one in my 72 Lemans, night and day difference. They make fittings so that you can use your existing SAE hoses. Bolts right in, I believe I uses a rag joint for a 1980 Camaro to get to bolt up to the existing steering wheel shaft. I wouldn't pay $400 for no steering box unless it was rack and pinion. :-) 1996 to 1998 Grand Cherokee Jeep steering box.
