I used a new Carter too and it failed within a few months. Switched to the Robbmc pump 6 years ago and never had any issues, plus no regulator to my quadrajet.

I have the close ratio and many times if I don’t come to a complete stop, and just moving about 5 mph, I don’t bother with 1st. I just use 2nd gear to accelerate away from an almost complete stop.
