![]() ![]() By comparing the two photos, the things that stand out to me is the repro's emblem does not sit as flush in the knob body as the GM part. Also, the grain on the repro is coarser. With that said, the repro is not bad at all! I purchased it for around $239 shipped. Not bad considering the last one sold for substantially more http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-1979-FI...p2047675.l2557

I think you did fine.
I haven't removed the backing from the emblem yet, so it's just sitting there and is a bit tall in the saddle. I think it will look a little better once I affix the emblem properly. And the grain will wear down so I don't think it is a big disappointment to me. I'm thinking it is likely from The Parts Place, but I've had it a number of years now. Chad .

With the repro they might be trying to simulate the raised medallion that was used on the early cars.

most of the repops I have seen the emblem sat flush, and I didn't like it because I have never seen an original which sat flush - this is the first one. The early knobs sat raised on a metal(?) backing; All of the latter ones I have seen were still raised, but not on a metal backing.

My wife thought I was crazy when I purchased this NOS unit w/no box for over $150 from a members' friend back in '11. But mine bugged me. As you can see, my inserts' silver pattern is ribbed and the edge is a chrome ring.

How early?
Mine are both raised. 71 and 72 with a slight beveled edge and grooves like Mike shows? Not much of grain at all...

My original '72 is the raised design and my original '78 is the flush design.

I believe the raised emblem was used on the '71-'77 knobs and the flush emblem was on the '78, '79 and '81 cars (sorry to derail the thread, Chad).

I'm enjoying the conversation. I'll definitely be needing a better knob now that I realize the differences.
Some of these part numbers that are not mentioned in the Assembly Manual can be a little tricky to figure out, if at all. These are the original 4 hooks from my car. They all look the same from the front side and are molded in blue to match the rest of the car interior. They came color matched in a number of colors, I saw the others during my searches, but only looking at blue right now. Looks like they used a single part number for 1970 and then carried that number over for the "Coat Hook" but gave the other two a new number for the "Storage Hook" which has a group number in common with the seat belts. Although the blue should be different so I might still have one of these numbers wrong. 9817975 15.388 23...................... HOOK (blue) 2 1970 1970 **15-8 9838734 14.875 AllF.................... HOOK, shoulder strap stowage (blue) 2 1971 1971 **14-1 ![]() Although they look the same on the front side the back sides show vastly different colored inserts in the two sets. ![]() No wonder they went on strike.... Chad .

Here's the only four 1971 specific color match "Coat Hook" that are listed in the online lookup. Seems like several missing....

Here's the assembly line correct part number switch with the later "PUSH" button. I also saved my original "WASH" button that I will put on before final install.

Here's an NOS horn relay. You can see the cover on the 893 was a zinc coating. It sat upside down in the box so it has a tiny bit of tarnish along one edge so I may re-coat this one.
