Not sure why special pistons would be needed. My High Ports have a 2.20 valve and generic Butler Ross pistons, 4.155 bore.

Yes you are. Not everyone runs Butler pistons. Also did you check radial clearance on your pistons? .080 is a noticeable move.
Don did a good thing by moving the valves but he might have created other issues by doing so. |

Butler pistons have some of the largest valve pockets in the industry "for a reason".
If the information posted in this thread about valve sizes and relocated valve guides is correct one better be sure to check the piston to valve clearance carefully and in all directions. A 2.11 intake valve has the potential to flow 350 plus CFM in a standard port Edelbrock head. A 1.66 exhaust valve will support 900 plus horsepower. Last edited by PAUL K; 09-06-2024 at 09:38 AM. |

Why doesn’t anyone ask don if they will need dedicated pistons? Or is everyone doing the liberal thing and talk and complain with out even knowing anything?

Something else to note as far as quality details he mentions is that they will have Helicoils for rocker studs and exhaust bolt holes

We probably won't realistically have an answer to that until the first couple castings get machined up. Don will learn a lot from that program.
He has 4 total castings right now. He intends to machine them up and work out that program. He'll then flow an intake and exhaust port on the D port and one of the round port heads. Then he intends to cut them up to make sure there's no issues with the castings, water is where it's intended etc. I'm sure at that time he'll have a better idea whether or not there could be a piston selection issue. Given the stated goal of these heads, it probably doesn't make business sense to have these go out the door to only people that will be doing a new build at the time and can select appropriate pistons. That's my speculation anyhow.
