Well, actually it came a tad short...but 1180hp from 419" isn't all that bad.
John Husek finished up his latest project a little while ago and finally got the time to put it on Extreme's dyno last saturday.
He then called Frank Iacionio for a quick appointment this last monday to verify the power it made.
Johns plans for this project were to work with myself to continue to make gains in the engine room as well as the race track, I guess i threw in the towel a bit too soon.
Anyway, this engine made 1180hp @9500 and 660 tq.
Sheetmetal intake and 2 "small" dominators, Johns carbs off his 1100hp 399" engine.
It was run on Q16 and with the same headers they dyno'd my 440 with.
Some people might not believe the #s, but I just wanted to put this post up as I believe it has to be the most powerful NA small block in existence!!!!
The head castings are GM SB2.2 castings with no major mods
Iron eagle 9" deck block
I believe Hughes did the manifold, John will have to verify..
John did the carbs as stated earlier
Jesel valvetrain components.
Killer job JTS,.......now work on your camera skills!!

But then again, who's counting horsepower, or dump sheets. I thought I would have seen over a dozen ehead 1000+ HP combos. CV-1 crowd smiles are getting bigger. I think skull drag is a little harsh, maybe a little carpet burn might be a better analogy.

No skull drag is appropriate.....they are not even close. Depends on the pump and what you're trying to do. If I wanted to print the number I would have went elsewhere. They can't smile too big they're down a 100 hp.

But I'll welcome them to the club if they can do it in the car with a slide rule.

Couple of points to make...

1. When we dyno'd Jeff's motor at Philadelphia Racing Engines is was raining and the owner (can't remember his name) said that his dyno was stingy. So the conditions were not even close to optimum.

2. Jack is correct. Even after the motor was dyno'd we continued to refine the set-up just about every pass to get everything out of that motor/chassis we could! That car was a continuing work in progress. We always strived for more!

3. When he went 8.42 the DA that day was not even close to mine shaft air. If my memory serves me correctly (Jeff correct me if I'm wrong), I believe the air was 600-800 feet and the barometer SUCKED. Jeff's car is so efficient...but there is always room for improvement.

Lots of but, but, but ...."BUT" still no sheet! Granted some of it is valid points.
As far as Im concerned Jeff makes a 1000 no problem 998 on a rain day, yup. Ran better in the car to at hut-hum cough cough 600-800 ft

I was E mailed one but it would not open the PDF. Supposed to be 1021 hp E head sheet!

My point to this thread is that it seems that its presented as if there are lots of 1000 hp E headed motors out there, seems now that the truth is....there's just not!

I was only thinking of this because Mike L. is trying to break through this barrier as He and I are working on his stuff now. I thought to myself, ya know I have never seen a 1000 hp e head dyno sheet but I hear of it all the time.
That's why the post.

True,

But lets not forget that the highest CV-1 motor to date made just a bit more than yours did on the same happy dyno, just wonder what that motor could have done had they stayed at it like you have???

That was on the happy pump. My car picked up a half a second after that. At best both those motors only made 920. At best.

Marcella,
Per your request, attached are the 9th and 10th pull on John Krull's 541 we did a few years ago. For pull 11 we switched to alcohol and it did made 884 lbs-ft torque before we hurt the head gaskets. Without any doubt, machines that make this level of power are not for the faint at heart, shallow pockets or mediocre parts. We calmed it down a bit with a dished piston and the rest is history discussed in other threads on here. As I understand John has not run it much. His day job is very demanding and it takes him all over the place more than anywhere else. Cool project for sure.

Lil,

Let's compare HP/cu.in.

My 511" motor with run-of-the-mill wideports, 1.6 rockers on 110 fuel made 920 HP. That's 1.80 HP/cu.in.

Your 541" motor with Gaby heads, 1.8+ rockers and I'm guessing at least C16 or Q16 fuel made 965 HP. That's 1.78 HP/cu. in.

So tell me again how I can't make power? And how am I a "hater" for recounting my experience? It appears the CV-1 crowd has taken the high road here, while the usual loud mouths spew their BS.

According to your comrade Gach, even if my car goes faster with CV-1 heads, it still doesn't prove anything. So if head flow is meaningless, dyno results are meaningless and ET doesn't prove anything, what else is there?

Dick Fulton

P.S. I LOVE lining up next to a guy like you who runs his mouth. Lock it in, sucka !!

I mentioned John's 541 a couple pages back but no one acknowledged it

Thanks for posting the dyno sheets.

BAM, nice! Please don't take this wrong, but do you believe the numbers on that pump? If so GREAT JOB!

Oh don't worry it's locked it.

The only thing that really matters is the ET slip, the rest I could care less.

And don't you have a sheet metal and two dominators to make that 920 HP?

Brian,
My reply was based on the quote above from Mike.

Tuning and increasing HP after dyno testing does happen. But if the motor was re-dynoed it would produce higher HP.
