I learned about it from an episode of Simon & Simon before I even owned a car.
That is about the only thing I remember from any episode of their show.
The older brother was running the heat on high on a 100+ day
and the younger brother was going nuts about it.
It was an old Dodge truck

No matter how hot the interior gets with the heater on. it still beats walking.

As I found out trying to get my dirt track cars to run cooler, every little bit of increased coolant capacity helps an engine to cool longer before it hits the critical point. In my quest to keep race cars cool, adding an extra gallon of capacity makes a great deal of difference.

Oh that was a classic!

Stupid quesiton; if the temp gauge goes into the danger zone in traffic are you better off to pull over and shut her down to cool off or put on the heat and try to get moving?

In my case if I can get moving my temp goes down pretty fast but if I can't get going I will find a place to pull over and pop the hood or find a side street to get up some speed. Using the heater does help but not enough because it doesn't stop the temp from rising but only slows it down.
