no looks arent the most important. if you would have read what i wrote and have wrote before if it performs well its not as important if it looks like crap. i just bring up the import wrong wheel drive (or AWD) cars to prove a point that GM cant keep on throwing a small block in things. now its proven. they can take a car with half the cylinders and make it go just as fast if not faster in the 1/4. theres a reason why i drive my 69 insted of a import. how many other "younger" guys my age say that? but for $35,000 GM should/could have done better. i like the interrior of the GTO (accept the steering wheel) but the outside is a diffrent story. 05 is a little better. looks like gm actually tried (at least half a**ed it) if the 06 or 07 looks/performs like what a GTO should then id actually think about buying one. yes i know for a fact there are several 13 or lower cars around here ive seen them at the track or videos of them or timeslips to prove it. i cant do that and be streetable at the same time. thats a contirdaction ?

I have a hard time understanding exactly what point you are trying to make. I am not sure if it's the spelling, punctuation or syntax etc., but my understanding, from your posting is that you :
Don't like the new GTO because it doesn't look good.
You don't like the new GTO because a few other cars will out accelerate it that cost around the same money.
You don't like the new GTO because it has a "small block" in it.
You like your '69 because it looks good and has a 428 in it.

quote:
i just bring up the import wrong wheel drive (or AWD) cars to prove a point that GM cant keep on throwing a small block in things. now its proven. they can take a car with half the cylinders and make it go just as fast if not faster in the 1/4.

Given the same treatment, the V-8 will be faster (not to mention last longer) in almost every case...... Why give yourself a handicap? The LS1, even with it's old school pushrod, 2 valve per cylinder technology, is not even breaking a sweat when it pushes a 3600 lb car into the low 13s, stock. The Briggs and Stratton in a Neon, with too many valves, too many rpms, too many turbos and too few cylinders is working pretty hard to push a lighter car into the same territory.
You think a FWD GTO with a turbocharged 4 cylinder would be more of a real GTO than the '04 is, with it's RWD V8?

quote:
theres a reason why i drive my 69 insted of a import. how many other "younger" guys my age say that?

Why is that? You can have a faster car with less cylinders?

quote:
but for $35,000 GM should/could have done better.

In what way, other than looks? You still haven't answered my question as to whoch other car you can buy for similar money that is in the same league as the new GTO. A FWD go cart with a turbo is NOT in the same league as the GTO, nor is the new Mustang.

quote:
i like the interrior of the GTO (accept the steering wheel) but the outside is a diffrent story. 05 is a little better.

Other than a 50 HP boost with the LS-2, the '05 is the SAME car, with a (fake) scooped hood and slightly different rear facia for the split outlets.

quote:
looks like gm actually tried (at least half a**ed it) if the 06 or 07 looks/performs like what a GTO should then id actually think about buying one.

You think GM should slow the new one down so it performs like an old one?

quote:
yes i know for a fact there are several 13 or lower cars around here ive seen them at the track or videos of them or timeslips to prove it. i cant do that and be streetable at the same time. thats a contirdaction ?

13 second and streetable is easy, even with an old GTO . It's the low 12's/high 11's where it starts getting a little more difficult to drive every day, not to mention expensive.
Once again, you missed my point on the 13 second thing. The new GTO is a 13 second car off the showroom floor. There are not too many new cars that run in the 13's off the showroom floor. If you start talking about modded cars, then it is simply a matter of opening up the wallet, and if you do this, it is very easy to get in the low 12s with a new GTO. The LS-1 responds very well to simple mods.

i like the 69 body style. i dont like the new gto because it has a chevy small block in it. it is supposed to be a "muscle" car if there are 4 cylinder imports that can hang with it or do better just not in the 1/4 mile but also 0-60 and in the skid pad. to me $35,000 ish is getting up there for a car. for the price the performance should be better. im not saying that the GTO is a total POS but gm can and should do better. theres plenty of positives you can say about it. i like the interrior. i like the true dual exhaust. but something that sounds as powerfull as it is should look the same. ill agree with the 13 second thing thats why low 13's inst impressive.

OK, a FEW 4 cylinders, that are working to within inches of their little lives, will keep up with the GTO. If you consider your '69 a msucle car, than why not the '04, since the '04 is faster off the showroom floor?

quote:
to me $35,000 ish is getting up there for a car. for the price the performance should be better.

I hate to break it to you, but you'll pay that much for a pickup truck nowadays. You aren't going to get any better performance out of many other cars in that price range.

quote:
im not saying that the GTO is a total POS but gm can and should do better.

So what are you saying? It is a powerful, RWD sedan, just like your '69. I agree that it could look a little more in your face, but overall, it is a great car, and well worthy of the GTO moniker it wears.

Low 13s, from a factory car is impressive, since there are only a few, especially in the same size/weight class as the GTO that will do it. If you don't think so, you haven't driven too many newer (or older, for that matter) cars.
As I said before, When I was younger, I was constantly amazed at how my mid 14 second '66 GTO would beat 11 second Camaros! Ricers didn't invent smack talking and BS posturing, although they have refined the art somewhat!

How does it feel knowing that my ugly, small block powered Monaro can beat, in almost every way, your mighty 428 powered '69? It's almost as bad as being beat by a ricer now isn't it? :wall:

to make it short they could have done better with the 04's looks and performance. they did MUCH better with the 05. but if imports can hang with or beat it not only in the 1/4 but 0-60 and in the skidpad something has to happen. id be embarassed if i went to the track and lost to a stock import. that would make me wanna sell the car.

youre right the EVO VIII or STI shouldnt be in the same league. but the point is that if you compare 1/4 mile times, 0-60 times, and skidpad results who is the winner? time for GM to wake up. oh by the way have you heared about the chevy coblat? its a little ugly POS 4 cylinder (import wanna be) with the echotech (spelling?) engine thats either turbo or supercharged i forgot which. it only runs mid/high 14's so not all torbo/supercharged 4 cylinders are fast. if i went that route id have a syclone or typhoon.

The next time some little weasle syas he's got a 10 second car ask him if that's in the 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile! Seriously, most of these ricers don't even know what it means to say you have a 13 second car, 14 sec, 11 sec, whatever. My son tells me there is a kid in his High School bragging he's got a " 8 second" CRX. My son, being sceptical like his old man, asks KIDCRX to show him the time slip. KIDCRX says "What time slip?" My son replies: " The 1/4 time slip from RMR." (Our local NHRA Drag Strip). KIDCRX says :Oh, I meant an 8 second 1/8th mile behind my house!

Once again to the misinformed: Try checking out the technical SAE Paper #970915 titled 1997 GM 5.7 Liter LS1 V8 Engine. It costs $12 and is available on the SAE website.
The designers started out TRYING to use the "chevy small block" platform but soon realized that there were some problems that couldn't be fixed without a clean sheet of paper design. Although expensive and certainly a difficult decision (for not the least of reasons - parts compatibility), the team STARTED OVER! This makes the LS1 a new design. So, if you want to say you don't like the new GTO because it has an OHV V8 in it, then that's fine. But it does not have a small block chevy. Those of you who keep saying that it does continue to show your ignorance in not even wanting to look at the design of the engine. Writing incorrect statements over and over about what you so obviously know so little is not going to make them true.
Read the technical paper and then lets see if you can write technically about how the LS1 is just a "chevy small block", until then don't write what you don't know.

so these are wrong ? tell them the LS1 isnt a chevy smallblock and have them redo all their work and see what they tell you.
