I work 3rd shift , after i got home i take out my dogs for thier dumps ... then i bring them in and go back out with a baggie and pick it up , ( good story so far ? ) ,,,, anyways , As i was doing this at 6:50AM on my residential road , a police car goes by and hits the brakes after he passed my house ..... then i see the reverse lites and he backs around my minivan right to where im standing and he rolls down his passenger side window .... he looks about 25 years old ..

Me... Is there something wrong oficer ?
LEO... I just have to ak you what that is under the cover over there in your driveway ....
Me... Its registered and insured officer , i can get the paperwork for you ...

me.... its a 67 ragtop firebird with a 428, 4-speed , in good shape but i just dont have time for using it at this time due to my edless excuses and laziness ... lol ...
LEO... My dad had one same year and i remember when it broke down near here years ago when i was a kid and we had it towed to a shop to fix it but they found frame row so my dad scrapped it , i cried ...

well , you al get the idea .... it was a cool moment .... and most people that stop toask me about cars are just interested in my Yellow 68 Cal-look Bug .

One time this kid was driving a 2000 Trans Am and I pull up at the light with a 1968 Firebird - kid asked me what kind of car it was. I just looked at him and said, read the fender.

Then blew out of the light when green.

I went to a car show with my kids last weekend and looking at a red 65 GTO this one guy leaned on the fender asking the owner "Whats it got in it a 389 or 400?" The owner quickly replied a 357? I couldn't stop laughing all weekend.

I had an opposite surprise a few months ago...as we drove to Galveston for the APA show on the Strand ,we cruised down the toll road, most had toll tags, but I didnt , so I pulled in to the toll booth...an old (even to me!) lady with grey hair looked out and said "nice 69 Firebird"!

just about floored me , but then I thought, she must have had one at some point...

Bjorn, that reminds me of another good one that happened to me.

A few years ago, a couple of us from Naples decided to drive up to the Plant City BOPC show. Our little caravan consisted of a '70 Judge, '71 TA, '62 Grand Prix, and my '66 GTO. We left Naples real early, as it was a 3+ hour drive. I was sick with a sinus infection that was kicking my ass, but the show must go on, right?

After the show, the '62 Grand Prix got a little cantankerous (the owner hadn't had it long, and was still working out the kinks), as the starter relay was starting to go south. It took my friend getting under there with a screw driver, while I worked the throttle to get it going, twice, since we stopped at Sonic too..

Once we started the trek home, I was leading the pack, because I knew where we were going. It was starting to get dark, when my phone rang. It was Doug, in the Judge, telling me that one of the tires on the GP was about to go, and that we needed to stop and change it.

We had just passed the last gas station for about 10 miles (which was in the middle of nowhere about 7 miles south of Bartow FL) about a mile back, so we all turned around and went back to it. We open the trunk and I was relieved to see that he had a spare in good shape, as I was really starting to feel lousy and we still had a solid 2 hours of driving ahead of us. We pull the spare and jack out, and not one of the 5, college educated car guys present could figure out how to LOWER the stock jack enough to get it under the car. The irony is that I ALWAYS bring a floor jack and full tool kit on these trips, but was feeling crummy, so I didn't bother.

As we stood there like a bunch of idiots in the waning light, an older woman, dressed like a homeless streetwalker with a "faces of meth" look about her, came out of nowhere, and made a beeline to the GP, completely ignoring the much nicer (the owner hadn't done much to it yet) and better known TA and 2 GTOs! She starts in with "I had one just like this in HS, and I was the fastest thing in Bartow with a 421 and tripower" etc.....

I was half paying attention, trying to figure out how to lift the GP enough to change the tire, so I could go home and submit to a Nyquil coma, as she was swooning over the GP. She kept going on and on, and I was getting a little annoyed with her. In an attempt to shut her up, assuming that she was full of crap, I turned to her and said: You used to own one of these? She said yes. I then asked her if she remembered how to lower the jack, as that's the problem we're having. Without hesitation, she said "Sure, you do this, this and step on this and it goes down"....

Darn it if she wasn't 100% correct!

I went into the gas station and bought her a 12 pack of her favorite beer.

What are the odds of running into the one person in 100 who would know how to work the thing? Especially since we were really in the middle of nowhere. She walked from somewhere, but looking on a map, there aren't too many houses within a few miles.....

Then we got lost in Arcadia......

Most of the questions/comments about my car have been positive. I had one just like that. My friend had one like that but it was "X" color. Good stuff. One of my favorites was at a gas station. Couple of kids working there saw me drive up and asked what size engine it had. Simply replied "400" . It was classic, their jaws just dropped. Kinda cracked me up. Guess the car does sound different than a dodge neon.

Exactly..... It's a bit humbling, and another lesson in judging a book by it's cover.

Even funnier since 3 out of the 5 guys with us are very hands on "wrenches" and couldn't figure out a simple scissor jack......

Also, most people, even a lot of car people, wouldn't know what a '62 GP was if it ran into them. Of the 4 cars there, it was the most unlikely one to be noticed, for both it's condition and rarity. Most folks make the beeline for the red Judge, Lucerne Blue TA or red GTO 'vert, not a maroon GP that needs paint....

FWIW, I pass that gas station during my weekly odyssey to/from work, and there is rarely any activity there, even in the middle of the day....

i drive my orange car, 71 GTO, every day, several times a day.
within the last 12 hrs i've heard: "my old boyfriend had one of those"; "i had one"; "is that a judge?", "the judges were orange"; and " thats my childhood dream car!"; "a 71 GTO?" ...."well...orange anyway."
orange seems to be the color they remember from the era.

I have a Nocturne Blue '64 GTO. Years ago a spectator at some show asked me "Hey, didn't this car used to be white?" I said "No, what makes you think it was?" "'Cause the paint code on the firewall tag is W", was his response. I patiently explained the '64 paint codes to him and even showed him the PPG paint chip page showing all the colors and their codes. Made no difference. For the next two years, every time he saw my car at a show, he asked me if it used to be white. I learned to flee every time I saw him coming. Scary thing is that these people get to vote.
