I attended the funeral of a coworker, and being used to normal funerals, walked in preparing to say goodbye to a friend I'd worked with for 10 years...and I find myself staring at a damn vase on a table. Like someone already mentioned, funerals are for the living, not the dead. Do what you will but consider the courtesy of cremation after the funeral. Sure the spirit is gone, and we're just staring at a cadaver...but we recognize each other by the body our soul is stuck in from birth to death, so it seems fitting to do those left behind the honor of seeing that body one last time..unless of course it is damaged by accident or disease to the point it may be more upsetting.

Buried both of my parents but cremated my brother after his suicide last April. Cremation is the for me is in my will and I want my ashes to be spread around Joes creek in Dalls where I used to play in my youth.

I just done hope that I taint the Dallas water system.

Bury me. I want to make my own coffin, too. Everyone in my family who has died has been cremated. My mom can't believe that I'd want to be buried. She gets visions of worms crawling through the body and rotting away and she can't deal with that. What do I care, I'm dead for pete's sake!

My Uncle was a undertaker for 30 odd years and my cousin also was for around 10 years, when my cousin got out of the game he was running a crematorium and both have stated they wish to be buried, cremation isn't nice behind the scences.
I was for it till they opened there mouths and gave me a insight into it.

I know what you mean. I saw this documentary about funeral homes and they showed the cremation process. I sure didn't like what I saw. Pretty gruesome.

So it takes 2 hours to burn off all the meat and organs. Whew.

I'll sign up for that. At the rapid rate of expansion I dont want a house or shopping center built over top of my body. If the kids want to visit me when I'm gone just speak to me. The only wish I have is for my ashes to be spread out at Mt. Rainier.

You may see it as cheap, but I see such a donation as noble. There's usually a sign in Latin over the dissection room at medical schools. It reads ""mortui vivos docebunt."

The translation is "The dead will teach the living."

Little slow at work today.......

I went through a year of some of the medical school classes I needed after i took my MCAT and knew I was secured a spot. I had a cadaver which was my subject for the year. All I can say is that I doubt I would know 1/10th of what I learned that year without that person's sacrifice. And my professor was very strict about how to act and treat the cadavers. It was worth your weight in gold not to cross her. We even did a final prayer service the last day of class after prepping the bodies to go for cremation. Very sobering thing. It is what i will do.

I always said that I wanted to be cremated. Then have my ashes molded in some plastic worms and give them to my friends so they could take me fishing one last time.
But, all my fishing buddies have passed so I have to come up with something else.
If I were to be buried, it would be at Andersonville National Cemetary as near to my Union POW relative as possible.

My brother wanted to be spread in the crater of Mt. St. Helens, we rented a plane (and pilot) and flew as low as legal and spread him right on the dome. I want to be cremated too and spread on the neighbors veggie garden. at least that's what I tell my kids.
